Learners in Years 9, 11, Sixth Form, and selected Year 10 recently took part in a Careers Fair, engaging with a variety of exhibitors from universities, apprenticeship providers, and businesses. The event gave learners the chance to explore different career and educational options, ask questions, and gather information to help guide their future decisions.
By interacting with experts, learners were able to discover opportunities that align with their interests and aspirations, gaining clarity on potential pathways such as further education, apprenticeships, and employment. The fair played a crucial role in equipping learners with the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about their futures.

During Careers Day, the mock interview session for learners was truly a highlight. It was a delight to watch as learners engaged in realistic interview scenarios, gaining firsthand experience of what it feels like to be interviewed in a real-life situation. This opportunity not only helped them build confidence but also provided valuable insights into professional expectations, effective communication, and interview etiquette. The session served as a practical learning experience, preparing them for future career opportunities and reinforcing the importance of interview skills in their professional journey.
A huge thank you to Alesia, Risikat, Solomon, Emanuel, Elizabeth, and Annamaria for their exceptional help in welcoming our visitors on Interview Day. Their support made the day run smoothly and created a warm, welcoming atmosphere for everyone involved.

We celebrated Valentine's Day in the library with our annual Blind Date With a Book. The learner librarians carefully selected the best romance books in the library and wrapped them up - no judging books by the cover here! Learners were encouraged to choose a book based on a little bit of information and specially made posters for each book. As you can see, it was extremely popular! Happy romantic reading!

Our Year 7 learners recently took part in a hands-on activity where they built their own solar systems. This fun and creative project allowed them to explore the fascinating world of planets, stars, moons, and more, while deepening their understanding of space. 🌍✨
The activity brought science to life and sparked excitement for space exploration. We are proud of their enthusiasm and creativity, and we look forward to seeing how this experience continues to inspire their learning.

On 9th January, Harrow High learners visited Tate Modern as part of their GCSE Art course, seeking inspiration for their coursework. The trip provided a unique opportunity to explore the works of renowned artists Mari Katayama, Anthony McCall, and Zanele Muholi, and to capture images and sketches for their upcoming projects.
The learners engaged with Katayama’s striking photography, which explores themes of identity and disability, sparking ideas for their own creative work. Muholi’s powerful imagery, focused on the Black LGBTQIA+ community, encouraged the group to think about representation and social activism in art.
The visit not only offered inspiration for their coursework but also allowed the learners to engage with contemporary art in a hands-on way, collecting images and ideas to develop their own creative expressions for their GCSE projects.

We are excited to highlight the importance of Sparx Reader in supporting learners reading development across the school. This innovative platform not only helps learners improve their reading skills but also encourages them to engage with texts in a meaningful way, boosting comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency.
In addition to Sparx Reader’s benefits, we are thrilled to introduce our new leaderboard, where we celebrate the top three learners in each year group! This initiative aims to recognise the hard work and dedication of learners who consistently engage with their reading and make impressive progress.
Each term, the leaderboard will showcase the achievements of our most dedicated readers, offering a little extra motivation for learners to push themselves further. We encourage all learners to aim for a spot on the leaderboard and make reading a fun and rewarding experience!
Keep up the great work, and let’s celebrate reading together!

On 29th January, we had the privilege of welcoming Vera Bernstein, who shared her family’s powerful story of survival during the Holocaust. Vera spoke about her parents’ incredible resilience—her family had to climb mountains and hide in bunkers to survive. Vera also shared the heartbreaking loss of her grandfather and her aunt, who tragically lost her life in a gas chamber at just 20 years old.
Our learners have been studying the events before and after the Holocaust, including the experiences of figures like Anne Frank. Vera’s visit added a personal and emotional layer to their understanding, offering a unique perspective on the hardships many families faced during this dark chapter in history.
Vera’s visit was a powerful reminder for our learners of the importance of empathy, tolerance, and remembering the past. We are grateful to Vera for sharing her story with us.

On 13th January, our A-Level Biology learners took part in an exciting and educational fish head dissection. This hands-on activity allowed learners to explore the anatomy of the fish in detail, examining organs such as the brain, gills, and eyes.
Through this practical experience, learners not only deepened their understanding of biological systems but also developed essential skills in observation, teamwork, and scientific analysis. It was a valuable and engaging way to bring classroom concepts to life.
We recently hosted our Year 7 Literacy Coffee Morning, offering parents the chance to learn about key literacy initiatives at the school. The session highlighted programmes such as Paired Reading, Bookbuzz, and Sparx Reader, all designed to enhance learners' reading skills and encourage a love of books.
Parents also had the opportunity to meet the Year 7 Year team, ask questions, and take part in valuable discussions about their child’s education. We thank all the parents who attended and look forward to continuing our partnership in supporting learner literacy!

Last week, we took part in Children’s Mental Health Week 2025, a week dedicated to raising awareness and promoting the mental well-being of all learners. Throughout the week, we provided a wide selection of self-help books in the school library, designed to encourage learners to explore and better understand their mental health. 📚 These books remain available in the library for any learner who would like to read them and continue their journey toward mental well-being.

Please remember to pack your child's inhaler if they have asthma, or an EpiPen if they have allergies.
It is important that these medical essentials are kept in their school bag in case of an emergency. If your child requires either of these items, we kindly ask that you double-check they have them with them each day, and notify the school of any specific medical instructions or updates regarding their condition.

The holidays are an ideal time to replenish any uniform items your child has out grown or lost. All children are expected to wear the complete Harrow High School.
White polo shirt and navy jumpers must have the school logo. They are available from Pullens, 48-50 Church Road, Stanmore, HA7 4AH. You can also order them online at www.uniform4kids.com but please order early to allow time for delivery.
In cold weather children should be wearing coats. We ask that they are of a dark colour (preferably navy or black) with some fluorescent strips. No coat should be obviously branded. For additional warmth, children are allowed to wear base-layers in white, navy or black underneath their uniform. Woollen hats, scarves and gloves are permitted, once again in dark colours. Girls can wear either skirts or trousers. Skirts must be between the knee and ankle.
Please make sure that all uniform items are clearly labelled with your child's name.
We are encouraging all our parents and carers to make sure that they have access to our Parent Portal & App. The Parent Portal and App are key ways for school to communicate with you.
If you have not downloaded the App or accessed the Portal, please contact the ICT Team (ictteam@harrowhigh.com) at Harrow High School who will help you set up your accounts.
The following article will help you get started: Log into the Parent Portal and the Parent App.
