Meet Ms. Toppi
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to a new school year! I am excited to begin my 31st year of teaching and to have the opportunity to work with your child in our 4th and 5th Grade ELA Enrichment Program. I look forward to a year filled with reading, writing, creativity, collaboration, and many memorable learning experiences.
Throughout the year, we will use the Wit & Wisdom reading program as an important foundation for our learning. Students will engage with high-quality literature and informational texts that encourage them to think deeply, make connections, support their ideas with evidence, and participate in meaningful discussions. Our immersive writing program will complement this work by giving students frequent opportunities to develop their own voices as writers while strengthening their organization, vocabulary, use of details, and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
The goal of the enrichment program is to challenge students beyond the traditional classroom experience. Your child will be encouraged to become a stronger, more thoughtful reader and a confident, effective writer. Just as importantly, I want students to become curious thinkers who are comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, taking intellectual risks, and learning from one another.
One of my favorite parts of the enrichment program is providing students with learning experiences that extend beyond our regular curriculum. This year, students will have opportunities to participate in my Italian Pen Pal Program, allowing them to communicate with students in Italy and learn firsthand about another culture. Students will also have opportunities to perform and showcase their learning during our annual Culture Fair, an event that brings learning to life through creativity and collaboration. In addition, I look forward to welcoming guest speakers into our classroom throughout the year to share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with our students.
I believe enrichment should be both challenging and exciting. My hope is that students leave our classroom each day thinking about something new, eager to continue a discussion, excited about a book, or inspired by something they have written or learned.
I am very much looking forward to meeting all of the children on our first day of classes, Tuesday, September 8th, and beginning what I know will be a wonderful year together. I also look forward to meeting parents at Back to School Night, when I will share more about our program, expectations, and the many opportunities your child will experience this year.
Thank you in advance for your support and partnership. I am excited to begin this journey with your children and look forward to watching them grow as readers, writers, thinkers, and learners throughout the year.
Warmly,
Ms. Annamarie Toppi
