I am so happy to be in Harrison Township for 16 years! This is my 22nd year as an Early Childhood special educator. 

Your Early Childhood teaching team is more interested in process than product.  Our centers are designed to support communication, social, and problem-solving skills through play, discovery and creativity.  It is very different from grade level classrooms which are based on detailed curriculum with a mainly academic focus.  I give a lot of thought to the ways in which I plan my instruction.  Academic skills are important, but so is a focus on child-centered play.  Both not only need to be but can be addressed, in an integrated and highly effective way.  Rote academic skills may be easily acquired.  Using those skills in functional ways is what we address, along with opportunities for functional use of social skills.
