We will expand on skills learned in previous years and learn so many new skills in math this year! We will be working with the enVision Math Curriculum. Most of our year is focused on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. We will also cover algebra, patterns, coordinate graphs, and measurement and data. You can see the parent letters for each Topic (unit) HERE.
Math Facts:
In fifth grade it is vital that students know their math facts. A few minutes a day is all it takes to keep the fresh!
Homework:
A small amount of homework will usually be assigned Monday-Thursday. Homework is important practice that should be completed daily.
Tests:
Students will typically be given at least a few days notice of any upcoming tests. They should study the skills that we have been working on in class. Students can refer to their workbook and review for the most recent skills practiced in class.
My Path - My Path is a digital math platform that we will be using. Students take a diagnostic test in the beginning of the year, mid year and end of the year. This test will create a customized math path for your child. There will be lessons that are specific to the skills your child needs to work on and the lessons can range from kindergarten level through eighth grade. The goal is for students to pass two lessons in a full week. Class time will be given to work, but students are welcome to work on it at home as well.
