Grading: This class will use a traditional points-based grading system. Although tests and quizzes will be worth the most points, the consistent nature of assignments and warm ups will also have a significant impact on a student's final grade. Therefore, students should complete warms ups and assignments on time and to the best of their ability.
Late Work: Work that is turned in past the due date (except for excused absences) will still be accepted but the maximum score a student can earn is 80%.
Absences/Make-up Work: Students are encouraged to speak with me ahead of time before a planned absence. When a student returns from an excused absence, he/she will have twice the length of the absence to complete any work that was missed. For instance, a student who missed two days of school will have four days to complete any make-up work.
Revisions: Students will have the ability to revise assignments, quizzes, and tests for the potential to earn back half of the credit that was lost. However, students are expected to revisit the material prior to making revisions in order to learn from their mistakes and improve their performance.
Personal Devices: Students may not use personal electronic devices in class (unless a student is using his/her own computer in class).
All school policies that are found in the Middle School Handbook also apply in Mrs. Crackel's classroom. Here are some additional norms and expectations for the class:
Come to class each and every day ready to learn and participate. The more you get involved, the more you'll learn and the more fun you'll have!
Treat everyone in class with respect, even if you don't agree with their ideas. Social Studies is full of issues that people disagree about. Just because we might disagree doesn't mean we can't along!
Use your planner every single day to write down activities, assignments, and homework (if there is any). The better organized you stay, the more success you'll have!
Be a good teammate. There will be plenty of opportunities to work and discuss in small groups. Do your fair share of the work and others will be more likely to as well. Plus, you'll get more out of the activities and will do better in the class!
Take your learning seriously. The further you get in school, the more you need to take responsibility for your own learning. This means staying organized, asking questions when you don't understand, participating in classroom activities, and putting forth your best effort. Don't settle for anything less than you are capable of!
