Vocabulary
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
A computer system that makes maps by layering information, like where people live, weather, or roads.
Location
The answer to โWhere is it?โ
Absolute Location
The exact spot on Earth, shown with latitude and longitude.
Global Positioning System (GPS)
A tool that uses satellites to find your exact location anywhere on Earth.
Relative Location
Where a place is compared to another place. Example: โThe school is next to the park.โ
Place
What makes a location special โ the land, people, and culture there.
Human-Environment Interaction
How people use, change, or adapt to their environment. Example: building dams or farming.
Movement
How people, goods, and ideas travel from one place to another.
Region
An area where places have something in common, like climate, language, or landforms.
Continent
A large piece of land on Earth. There are 7 continents (like Africa, Asia, and North America).
