Fourth Grade Information
Assignment Books Assignment books are furnished by the PTO and are to be maintained by the student and reviewed and initialed by parents each night. Students are expected to take them to each class and record the daily assignment and any homework assignment for each academic class. This is a great way to maintain communication with teachers since they are checked daily.
Homework Folders Homework folders are the responsibility of the student and should be kept neat and organized. Folders should be brought home each night, so parents have an opportunity to review daily assignments and ensure homework is completed. Daily and homework papers should always be placed in the “completed” section of the folder and returned to school. Do not discard assignments until they have been graded and sent home in an Eagle folder.
Classwork and Homework It is important for your child to complete and turn in their classwork and homework on time. Teachers will give a due date for work. Due dates are not suggestions and points may be deducted for late work. Daily grades will account for 60% of a student’s grade and test grades will make up the other 40%.
Eagle Folders Eagle folders are usually sent home once a week on Wednesdays. They will contain your student’s graded papers. Progress reports and report cards will also be sent home in eagle folders. Once you have reviewed graded papers, you may keep your child’s assignments at home. Only the eagle folder and student reports need to be returned to school the next day. Please sign the parent notification form before returning the eagle folder back to school.
Attendance Attendance is crucial to learning. If your child is not here, they miss valuable class instruction, discussion, and guided practice that simply can not be made up.
Absences Students that are absent from school are required to bring a note when they return to school. Students will be given one day for every day absent to complete and return assignments missed due to absence from school. It is the student’s responsibility to acquire, complete, and return assignments.
Independent Reading Students are expected to read every night. Limited reading time will be provided in class, so students need to read at home as well. It is suggested that students read 20-30 minutes from library books each night, as they are still emergent readers and need the practice for growth. Students will have an Accelerated Reader goal each grading period. Reading at home will help ensure they reach their goals.
Behavior Most students adjust to the responsibilities of fourth grade within the first few weeks of school, but some students have a little more difficulty. Failure to take care of individual responsibilities in the classroom will result in consequences. Students may receive consequences for infractions such as excessive talking, disruptive behavior, incomplete work, lack of materials, etc.
Lockers Lockers are a privilege, not a right. If your child can not handle having a locker (messy, constantly forgetting things, etc.), he or she will lose locker privileges and will have to carry his/her materials from class to class.
Being Prepared It is important that your child come to class prepared. This means being on time and having his/her supplies ready. Supplies needed for each class usually consists of an assignment book, homework folder, pencils, earbuds, library books, and whatever else might be needed for that class such as composition notebooks, workbooks, etc.
