We know you’ve missed your friends! Under usual circumstances, you’d love to embrace them, but unfortunately this cannot happen. We must insist on no physical contact between students. When greeting your friends, why not try some of the methods above?

What will school be like when we come back?

There are a number of things you will notice that are different school when you come back - but don't worry! These measures are important, as they will help all of us to maintain social distancing, and help to keep you and your family safe. But the most important thing is that your teachers will still be teaching you as well as they did before, even if rooms look a bit different! We're really looking forward to seeing you all!

Procedures when you arrive at school.

Before you enter the school building, you will notice Yellow Floor Markers along the main ramp into the building. Students should stand directly on these floor markings when queuing to enter the building. Please don't arrive early - make sure you arrive with the rest of your year group, so that you stay in your 'bubble'.

When you enter the building, you will sanitise your hands - this will happen regularly throughout the day! You must then put on your face mask.

To keep you safe, Harlington School has purchased a Thermal Imaging Camera which we will use to check your temperature as you enter the building. If your temperature is above 37.8 degrees, we will ask you to wait in our isolation room for 10 minutes (You may be hot after rushing to school)! After 10 minutes, we will re-check your temperature. Providing your temperature has returned to a safe level, you will proceed to enter the school. If your temperature has remained at (or above) 37.8 degrees, we will contact your family, in line with Public Health England guidance, as a high temperature is a common symptom associated with Coronavirus, and ask them to collect you to self isolate. If you are sent home, please know that this is not an exclusion. It is a protective measure to keep you, your friends and everyone in the community safe. You can return to school after 10 days or after receiving a negative Covid-19 test result, provided your temperature has returned to normal. Whilst you are at home, you will be able to keep up with your lessons if you are well enough, as your teachers will email you the lesson plans and activities.

After sanitising your hands and having your temperature taken, you will sit on a socially distanced chair in the Main Hall and be briefed on the school day. You'll then be escorted to your form class, or first lesson , using the one way system.

Classroom set up

Class may look a little different, but you'll soon forget about any strangeness once your lessons start! Your teacher will be teaching from the front, inside their 'zone. You'll be sitting at your table, and we ask you not to get up from your seat if at all possible. Wherever possible the tables will be facing forwards. You should always bring your own equipment to use, as you should not be sharing anything. You will have your exercise books as usual, but these are for you to make your lesson notes. Teachers will not usually be collecting them in - but they will be setting you regular assignments on FROG, which they will usually mark online as well. We will provide pens and pencils if you need them but you must keep them safe and not allow anyone else to share them with you.

Need the toilet? We recommend that you use the toilet when you need to go, rather than waiting until break time - this will reduce the queues. Please ask your teacher, who will grant you permission to leave your lesson. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds after you have used the facilities. Return to your lesson immediately after using the toilet, and sanitise your hands again before entering the classroom.

Catch it, Bin it, Kill it.

Please make sure that you practise good respiratory hygiene! Sneeze into your elbow, and dispose of your tissue straight away in the lidded bin. Ask your teacher for the disinfectant spray to clean your desk, and sanitise your hands.

Feel unwell? Tell your teacher straight away!

If you feel unwell, please tell your teacher straight away. We'll come and collect you from your classroom and take you to be checked out. This is really important if you start to feel hot, or you keep coughing, or if you suddenly lose your sense of smell or taste.

Talk quietly! Shouting can increase the risk of spreading Coronavirus!

Breaktimes and Lunchtimes

Break and lunchtimes are staggered so that we only have 2 year groups out at any one time. You will be taken to the playground by your teacher, to your Zone. You MUS T remain in your Zone unless you are lining up to use the toilet or the dining hall. You do not need to wear your mask outside, but you must put it on when you go back into the building.

If you are in Years 7 - 10, you will be collected from the playground by your teacher. At the end of your break, line up on your form's fire evacuation line, in alphabetical order. Stand quietly and calmly.

If you are in Years 11 - 13 you will not be asked to line up, but to make your way back to your class. Use the one way system at all times, and don't forget to put your mask on before you re - enter the building.

Bring a warm coat ! Unless it is raining heavily, you will be outside during break and lunchtimes, as being outside reduces the risk of spreading Coronavirus.

Wet Break? You will be asked to stay in either the Dining Hall or the Sports Hall. You must remain seated, and not move about. When break has ended, you must follow the one way system back to your classroom.

Food offer: Chartwells will continue to offer hot and cold food choices, but it will all be individually wrapped. You will be able to sit down in the Dining Hall if there is space, but once all spaces are filled, you will be eat outside. We have ordered extra seating for outside. Only one person per seat! Please also dispose of all rubbish in the bins!

The end of the day

At the end of the school day or your last session, you will be escorted to the Library entry / exit doors. You must make your way home immediately. Do not wait for your friends or congregate outside the school building or the surrounding areas.
