Hello campers and parents!
In this camp, we are learning computer science on Code.org, a fun, creative platform for learning computer science and basic coding to create interactive animations, games, or apps.
To find out more about how Code.org encourages learning about Computer Science, you may watch any of these videos together:
Our class uses personal logins to sign in. To sign in to Code.org at home, do the following:
Go to https://studio.code.org/ and click 'Sign In'
Enter your email and password and then click 'Sign In' (if you don’t have an email address OR if you are under 13, check in with parents to use a different way to sign up)
Be sure to bring your login information with you to camp.
Once signed in, you can explore many learning opportunities. There are courses on many topics. There are “Studios” or what some coders call “Sandboxes” to practice and create using the code you have learned. There are short (approximately 1 hour) activities to explore and practice a variety of coding skills (logic, loops, graphics, interactive… etc.) listed under the “Hour of Code” menu. Or, check out code.org/athome for ideas for things to work on at home.
During camp, we will explore and select courses or activities that we can use to begin or continue our computer science journey.
Keep up to date with what your child is working on and receive updates from Code.org. Have your child sign in to Code.org and then enter your email in Account Settings or click here.
Six different studies show: children who study computer science perform better in other subjects, excel at problem solving, and are 17% more likely to attend college. Computer science teaches students critical thinking, problem solving, and digital citizenship, and benefits all students, no matter what opportunities they pursue in the future. And learning to make interactive animations, code-art, games, and apps on Code.org encourages creativity and makes learning fun.
Code.org assigns utmost importance to student safety and security. Code.org has signed the Student Privacy Pledge and their privacy practices have received one of the highest overall scores from Common Sense Media. You can find further details by viewing Code.org's Privacy Policy.
Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for your continued support of your child and of our classroom!

During Camp, we will use the camp virtual "classroom" that allows the instructors to track camper's progress. After camp, campers will be removed from the virtual classroom, but will continue to have access to their code.org account!
When you join the Camp virtual class, you will notice that all the campers are automatically set up with access to the "Express Course (2023)" course but you can also click on the "Course Catalog" tab to see what other courses are available.
Below is a link to try out some of the activities specifically for grades 6-12. These are in block, Javascript, Python and other coding languages.
