Dear Laker Families,
I hope this message finds you well. We want to provide you with important information regarding our school’s Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) plan. This plan ensures students can continue learning even when conditions prevent our schools from opening.
Snow Days: Schools will be closed, and students will not have any schoolwork. These days will be added to the district calendar and made up later.
NTI Days: Students will complete schoolwork from home as if they were attending school in person. NTI days count as instructional days, meaning they do not need to be made up on the district calendar.
Students with internet access and a device should visit the West Hardin Middle School webpage. On the far right, click NTI Information, then click the link provided. This will take you to our NTI page where daily assignments are posted.
The NTI site will go live each morning at 8:00 AM.
Teachers will follow the Google Meet schedule (shared below) and will be available for assistance. While attendance in Google Meet is not required, we strongly encourage students to join if they have questions, need help, receive accommodations or want to check in.
It is imperative that your child completes their NTI work each day. Completion of NTI assignments counts as their attendance for the day. All work assigned on an NTI day must be completed within 7 calendar days of returning to school. It is recommended that students complete their work on the day of NTI if at all possible, but we are mindful of extenuating circumstances. To be clear, your student’s submissions of assignments within those 7 days are what will count your student as present for attendance purposes. Please help us ensure your child stays on track.
We are using the information families provided in Infinite Campus at the beginning of the year regarding internet access at home to determine which students will receive packets. These packets will be sent home this week.
Packets will contain Days 1–5 of NTI work. If additional NTI days are needed, Days 6–10 will be distributed later. It is important that your child keeps up with the entire packet, as it will contain several days of work.
If your family did not indicate this need earlier but chooses to use a packet during NTI, you may pick one up from the file box located outside the front office doors. This cabinet will only be placed outside on NTI days—not daily. You can pick up a packet at any time during an NTI day, whether or not someone is in the office—there’s no need to ring the bell.
Please return completed packets when school resumes in person.
Please refer to the schedule below for specific times when your child can join Google Meets for each class period.
We will continue to keep you updated through our school website, social media, and phone/text alerts via the HCS app.
Thank you for your partnership and support in ensuring that learning continues during NTI days. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
With Laker Pride,
Christin Swords
