Let's see what first grade has to say!
CJ Wilson is a first grader in Mrs. Robinson's class. He said his favorite thing about this year is all the fun games that his class plays.
Karlie Adcock, from Ms. Squires's class says that her favorite activity was her class trip to the pumpkin patch at Robert's Family Farm!
Sounds like first grade has a lot of fun everyday!
Penelope Fouquet is a second grader at VGE. Penelope says yes! to homework because she enjoys working on it. Penelope loves to do math because she can easily solve problems. Penelope said second grade is better than first grade because of the activities. Penelope said "The difference between second grade and first grade is it's way harder and way different."
In the third grade, Mrs Link's class is doing great at their multiplication facts! Mrs Link said that on Wednesdays they do their facts quiz. Mrs Link wants to send shout outs to Jaxon Loos, Maya Willis, and Brady Bewley for doing amazing at their math facts and Reflex! Mrs Links favorite grade to teach is third grade. She and Mrs. Gumm also run the Robotics Team.
Let's see what 4th grade has to say! Lily Thoma is learning about volcanoes and she is reading Guts by Raina Telgemeier. Lily is a nine years old with brown hair, and her favorite color is red. Lily also plays for the the fourth grade basketball team and the fifth grade basketball team. Did you know that Lily broke her left hand and it was really hard to do school stuff? Two weeks after she got her brace off she was back to normal!
We have a fabulous team of fifth graders who are working together to put together this school newsletter. I am so proud of each of them for all the work they have already done to put this newsletter together. Be sure to let them know your thoughts and ideas for upcoming issues!

Families will read The One and Only Ivan at their own pace between November and February. There will be optional activities such as a coloring contest, a drawing contest, and ideas for family projects. Students can complete summaries with illustrations of each chapter to display on a school bulletin board inside our library. Materials for these activities will be available for students to pick up right under the bulletin board. In February, we are planning a family movie night to watch The One and Only Ivan together! Look for more information in upcoming issues of Vine Grove Views!
Ms. Squires is a first grade teacher in Vine Grove Elementary. Ms. Squires wanted to work at Vine Grove because her brother worked here, and she thought it would be cool to do the same. She was born and raised in Kentucky. She likes playing with her dog and doing barre classes [work out classes]. She became a teacher because her dad was a teacher. He was the best, and she wanted to be just like him. She thinks everyone here is a Rockstar!
Mr. Pullen is our music teacher at Vine Grove Elementary. He came to Vine Grove because when he was applying to this job he thought how lovely this school is. He is from Florida . After school, he likes to play video games like Fortnight and Minecraft. He become a music teacher because he has played music since he was 3, and he loves doing it. Mr. Pullen is putting a play together for our school The date will be December 11. The title of the play is How The Penguin Saved Christmas. He wants to say to the whole school that he loves being here and loves all the teachers and students.
Did you know that we succeeded in the "Fun Run" because people from our school donated money for us? Another reason we did the fun run is so that all of the kids in the school could have a day to run around and have fun. Teachers motivated us by playing music and giving us words of encouragement. Last, participating in the Fun Run shows us that this event is not just about raising money and running around. It is about working hard as a team to buy and receive school materials like newer Chromebooks. Even better than that, Mr. Lundy got pied in the face FIVE TIMES!!!
Summer Shepard is in 4th grade on the girls basketball team. She has been playing basketball for one year. She is still discovering what her favorite position will be. She wanted to tryout because she enjoys playing basketball. Basketball is her favorite sport too.
Oaklee Willams is a 5th grader on the girls' basketball team. She has been playing basketball for 3 years, this is her 2nd years playing for Vine Grove. Oaklee wanted to play again because she wanted to help her team and spend time with friends. Basketball is also her favorite sport
Brody Caputo on the boys basketball team in 4th grade has been playing basketball for 5 years! He likes to play basketball because he thinks it's really fun. His favorite position is Point Guard. He likes Point Guard because he gets to take the ball up the court and score for his team.
Duke Cecil is in 5th grade on the boys basketball team. His favorite position is small forward. I asked him "Why is small forward your favorite position?" he said that he gets to do a little bit of everything. He has also been playing basketball for 2 years. This is his first year playing on the boys basketball team.
What an incredible start we’ve had to our school year! The halls are filled with excitement, learning, and laughter every day. Our students have been showing great effort, kindness, and responsibility, and it’s paying off in wonderful ways.
One of the highlights of our weeks has been the Friday lunch dance parties! Students have earned these celebrations through positive behavior and hard work, and it’s been so much fun to see everyone dancing, smiling, and enjoying time together.
We also had an outstanding school fundraiser this fall. Thanks to the generous support of our families and community, we exceeded our fundraising goal!
Our primary students are making fantastic progress as they dive into learning to read and master new phonics skills each week. Meanwhile, our intermediate students are excelling with hands-on projects, sharpening their math facts, tackling creative writing prompts, and so much more.
It’s truly inspiring to see the dedication of our students, staff, and families. Thank you for making the start of this school year such a success. I can’t wait to see all the learning and growth still to come!

Everyone feels big emotions sometimes — like anger, sadness, worry, or frustration. That’s totally normal! What’s important is knowing what to do when those big feelings show up.
Here are some coping skills you can try:
Take deep breaths — in through your nose count to 4, out through your mouth count to 4.
Move your body — go for a walk, stretch, or do some jumping jacks.
Draw or write about how you feel.
Talk to someone you trust — a friend, teacher, or family member.
Listen to calming music or use a fidget tool.
Tell yourself something kind — like, “I can calm down” or “I’m safe.”
Remember: All feelings are okay! You can’t always choose what you feel, but you can choose how to handle it. Using coping skills helps you feel better and makes your brain ready to learn again.
