Message from the Principal:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this week’s newsletter. I will start this week with the delight and joy of our World Book Day! Thank you all for your fabulous support with dressing up - the children looked fantastic! They all enjoyed a day of reading and book- based activities, with the highlights being a visit from Mighty Mariner in assembly and some lovely ‘hot chocolate with a book’ sessions.
It’s been a busy fortnight in school, with year 4 working hard on their geography fieldwork trip to Hubbards Hills, year 6 really demonstrating our ambition value with their fabulous effort in their last practice SATs, year 5 wowing me again with their volcanoes topic work, and year 3 making fantastic progress with their fractions learning.
A huge well done to everyone for attendance this week; we have had the highest attendance for some time, with Thursday hitting almost 98%. This is fabulous, well done everyone and let’s see if we can keep it up!
Just a reminder that next Wednesday (11th March) is our Parents’ Evening. If you haven’t already, please book on Arbor. We had lots of positive feedback about using the classrooms last time so we will again use this system. If you come to the hall door we will show you round to the classrooms to see teachers.
We are also inviting parents to come for our Science Week Workshops (week beginning 16th March). It is great to see our community sharing learning together; please see the bottom of the newsletter for the dates for your child’s year group.
I have received several complaints recently regarding parking in Barnett Place. Some have included photographs of people parking over residents’ driveways. Please can I ask everyone to be considerate when parking, particularly in the area closest to the school gates.
You won’t believe it but I have even more baby news for you this week! Miss Jervis in Tulips has announced that she is expecting her second child. Huge congratulations to her and her family.

We are excited to announce a new incentive to celebrate our students' commitment to learning this term. Every child who achieves 98% attendance or higher during the Spring term will be automatically entered into a special prize draw!
The lucky winner will walk away with a special prize just for them, and they’ll also be taking home a £25 Asda voucher for their parents to enjoy. PE Kits
PE kit MUST be brought to school on your child's PE days,
Year 3 and Year 4 - Monday and Wednesday
Year 5 and Year 6 - Tuesday and Thursday
PE kit should be worn for every PE lesson to ensure children are successful and safe during their session. Please ensure your child is wearing the school PE top with the WBJS logo, black or blue joggers/shorts and comfortable trainers.
WBJS Newsround
In year 3 we have started to learn about frations in maths. We have been using maths equipment to help us work out our fractions. In English we are reading the Tin Forest which is about an old, lonely man living in a small house. He finds lots of scrap metal outside of his house and he has an idea. He sorted out the metal and then he built a forest out of tin. As well as this, he made lots of animals out of tin which made new, real animals appear. Eventually, the Tin Forest turned into a real forest full of life. In RE, we have started to learn about a new religion. In Geography, we have learned about capital cities in the UK. The capital city of England is London! We have searched for local human features such as the Humber Bridge, The Deep, Lincoln Cathedral and Cleethorpes Pier.
Sophia - Buttercups
Firstly, we went to Louth to visit Hubbard Hills. We did a lot of walking, discussed the River Lud and drew some observational drawings. Next, we have been learning about improper fractions and mixed numbers. We also learned how to convert mixed numbers to improper fractions and convert back. In English, we are reading a new book called Farther which is about a Dad who wants to fly with wings that he has invented. When he got called to war, unfortunately Dad did not return and his son followed his Dad's dream and finally created flying technology!
Ethan - Daffodils
In year 5 we have been celebrating World Book Day. We went into assembly and saw the Mighty Mariner! After this, we went back to class and listened to a variety of authors read extracts of their book. We then spent some time mashing two books into one by creating a comic strip. Finally, we made a front cover to go with our new story. Also this week, we have been learning fractions and decimals in maths, learning about volcanoes in Geography and cricket in PE.
Ashlea - Orchids
In PE we have been learning how to complete physical games without verbal communication, hearing or sight. During our Science lessons we have been learning about how blood travels through our body and learning about the role of a vein. In History we have been learning about Irena Sender who saved over 1500 children from being killed in the Jew concentration camps and the ghettos. This week we have been completing our mock SATS to get us ready for May. On Friday, we celebrated with Fab Friday were we got to choose from boardgames, laptops, football and crafts and we all got a yummy hot chocolate and biscuit!

What a spectacular World Book Day we had this year! Our hallways were transformed into a living dictionary as children arrived dressed as their favorite adjectives—the creativity on display was truly "magnificent," "vibrant," and "extraordinary." The day was packed with literary magic, from cozying up with hot chocolates and audiobooks to the heartwarming sight of our older and younger students sharing stories across year groups. We were also thrilled to welcome a very special guest, The Mighty Mariner, who inspired our young readers and generously gifted every child a brand-new book to take home. It was a wonderful celebration of the joy of reading that we hope continues long after the costumes are tucked away!
Reading with your child for just ten minutes a day can make a world of difference to their success in school and beyond. While we focus heavily on literacy in the classroom, the quiet time spent sharing a book at home is where a true love for stories is born. Reading at home doesn't just improve vocabulary and comprehension; it sparks imagination, builds empathy, and provides a wonderful opportunity for you to bond. Whether it’s a bedtime story, a comic, or an information book, every page turned helps build the confidence and curiosity your child needs to thrive. We ask our pupils to please read at home 3 times per week and to bring their bookbag, reading record and reading book into school everyday.
Our Year 4 explorers had a fantastic day out at Hubbard’s Hills recently, putting their geography skills to the test in the great outdoors. The children demonstrated impressive precision as they navigated the rolling landscape using compasses, ensuring no one lost their way!
During the trip, we focused our studies on the River Ludd, specifically observing the features of its middle course. The students took the time to create detailed field sketches, capturing the movement of the water and the shape of the riverbanks. Beyond the art, they also became local experts, uncovering key facts about the Ludd's history and its importance to the Louth landscape. It was a wonderful day of hands-on learning, and the children’s enthusiasm for the natural world was a joy to see.

Please can we remind parents to be respectful of residents and not park over dropped kerbs or use driveways to turn.
The law states the below:-
Using someone else's driveway in the UK without permission is generally not a criminal offence, but it is considered civil trespass. While you likely won't face criminal charges for turning around or parking, the homeowner can take civil action against you, and they can also report abandoned vehicles to local authorities.
Key Points Regarding Driveways:
Trespassing: Driving onto a private driveway, even just to turn around, is technically trespass.
Civil Action: If this behaviour is persistent, homeowners can technically take civil action for nuisance, although this is often not practical for one-off instances.
Damages: If you damage the driveway while turning, you are liable for repairs.
Alternatives: Find a safe, public spot to turn around, such as a side road or a roundabout, to avoid potential disputes.
