Message from the Principal:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to our final newsletter of the term. No
messages from me this week as I have sent an end of term letter this time.
I’d just like to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas, a happy new year and thank
you all for your fantastic support.
S Sargent
Principal
Good attendance and punctuality are vital for success at school, and to establish positive life habits that are necessary for future success. Through regular attendance pupils can build relationships and develop strong social groups.
Last week we gave over 160 certificates out to children who had 97%+ attendance since the start of September!

WBJS Newsround
Year 3 shared all of their great learning from their first term at William Barcroft Junior School. They shared which books they have been reading and what their favourite parts were alongside their writing which links to their books. They showcased their learning about the Stoneage, Bronze Age and Iron Age with their parents and sang a lovely song from their Music lessons with Mr Blake. They finished their showcase with a rendition of 'It Was On a Starry Night' before sharing all of our books with their parents.
Year 4 shared their sensational term with their parents on Monday 16th December. They disucssed how they had been learning shape in maths, reading the Land of Roar and Sticth Head in English and even shared a lovely video of the children in 4N playing the violin in their music lesson. The morning was completed with a lovely version of Starry Night sang with beautiful actions. Well done year 4! Your confidence is growing everytime.
Year 5 completed their learning showcase in a newsround style. They read their work on Aveline Jones and The Escape Room. They acted out scenes from the book which was greatly received by the audience. To finish off an amazing showacase, they sang a song learned in their music lesson with Mr Blake.
Year 6 showcased their musical violin skills in their learning showcase this week. They shared their writing from their Aveline Jones narratives which they have written this term and also extracts from the story. They performed a section of the reaping ceremony from the Hunger Games book which they are reading in Autumn 2. They discussed what squared, cubed and prime numbers were for maths and finally finished their morning with some Christmas songs chosen by the children.
The Production Club
This week, the Production Club performed three fantastic performances of 'Cinderella the Pantomime' (Oh yes they did!). This was performed to the whole school who loved joining in with all of the classical pantomime parts. We had special solo parts from some Year 6 children singing 'Man I Feel Like a Woman', 'Perfect' and 'You've got a friend in me' and all children thoroughly enjoyed joining in for 'I'm a Believer'. The children in this club have been rehearsing for their Christmas show for months and it is clear to see how much they have all grown in confidence and how much they loved being part of this project. We ended with two performances to parents, one of which we had nearly 70 family members of children join us, making it a sell out!
Thank you for all your support in fostering the talents of your children. It is so marvelous watching them blossom in confidence and shine on the stage as aspiring thespians and performers!
Delight and Joy
Thank you to our fantastic Mellors staff for providing our Christmas Dinner this year. All students and staff enjoyed sharing their lunch together in the hall, singing Christmas songs and sharing our jokes from our Christmas crackers.
Delight and Joy
The children were so excited that 100% entertainment came to WBJS on Monday to help us celebrate in style. We had dancing, singing, games and even foam! It was a joyous afternoon and the delight and joy spread around the hall like Christmas cheer!
The children wore their Christmas Jumpers with pride on Friday 13th December to help raise money for our local charity St Andrews Hospice. The children discussed how this small gesture and their contributions help to support people in our local area.
Community
On Friday 13th December the whole school visited the local church at Old Clee. We listened to the Christmas story read by the Reverand Lynne and our volunteering children. This was followed by the children singing a variety of Christmas carols lead by Mr Blake. The acoustics in the church made their singing sound beautiful and we were immensely proud of their efforts during the afternoon.
Delight and Joy
The children visited Healing Academy on Tuesday 17th December and Wednesday 18th December to watch their incredible pantomime 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and found it hilerious when Mr Dawes was pulled up on stage!
Thank you to Healing Academy for hosting this viewing for our children, we had a wonderful time.

With Christmas just around the corner, the holiday period is a great time to take stock of the devices they have (plus any new Xmas devices) and ensure they are set up correctly with any parental features you feel are appropriate for your child.
One frustrating issue is that the available features and how you set devices up differ, so to help parents Internet Matters have really good, non-techie guides which you can follow as part of their ABC Checklist. ABC stands for:
A - Activate parental controls.
B - Balance screen time.
C - Check and chat.
