Newsletter Friday 4th November 2022
Message from Miss Emson
I cannot believe we've already reached the end of the first week back. We've returned to the darker mornings and evenings and that sudden coldness! With that in mind, please ensure children are coming into school in appropriate coats and footwear. There seems to have been a change to footwear - the uniform expectations have not changed- black shoes, please. If there is a problem, please contact Mrs Billingham in the first instance.
I wanted to add a bit of festive cheers to this week's newsletter now that Halloween has passed. There are some key diary dates for you but please do follow us on Twitter aswell @Primarygreat as we do share lots of information there too. Christmas at Greatcoates is celebrated in the last week of term - we have a panto visit, our christmas lunch and party day. We will also be hosting the EYFS Nativity this week too! This year's theme for Christmas lunch/party day is 'TOYS'. This is to be interpreted how you wish - an elf on the shelf, a rag doll, a fairy, the hulk, a tin soldier....the list is endless!
Enjoy your weekends and please remember to stay safe this bonfire weekend.

Reading
Green means your reading score has gone up. Amber means it has stayed the same or gone down. Very well done to Mrs Martin’s class for achieving 100 again.
As you can see, we have a lot of classes whose reading has dropped this week. Please encourage your child to read. It is the one thing that parents can do which will have a massive impact on pupil’s learning and their futures. We don’t send homework home, apart from spellings, as we understand parents and children are busy and all we ask that you do is encourage your child to read for ten to 15 minutes at least 3 times a week.
Parents' Meetings
You should have received the time for your parents' meetings next week. If you are not able to attend at any of the times offered please contact the school office. Mrs Cox is currently not at school so appointments for Mrs Cox's class will not take place this week and will be arranged when she has returned to school.
Parent Pay
As previously mentioned on newsletters, we are having problems with lunches as parents are not ordering their children's lunches on parent pay, sending children without a lunch and expecting the school to provide one. This is costing the school money, causing waste and leads to some pupils not getting the lunch they have ordered.
From next week, if we have not received a child's lunch order on Parent Pay we will not provide then with a lunch. We will contact you and ask you to provide them with a packed lunch. This includes children who are entitled to Free School Meals and Universal Free School Meals (FS and KS1)
Any parents having problems ordering on parent pay must contact the school immediately and someone in the office will help you to set it up so you can use the app.
18th November - Children in Need
On Friday 18th November, we will be celebrating Children in Need. All children are invited to come to school wearing something spotty for a £1 donation. The children will take part in other fund-raising activities and we will let you know what these are next week.
14th November to 18th November – Anti Bullying, Road Safety
On Monday 14th November, to celebrate the start of Anti-Bullying week, we would like pupils to come into school in odd socks! The odd socks represent the message of individuality, tolerance and acceptance.
We would like to remind parents that or school has been featured on the National Anti-Bullying Week official video celebrating anti bullying week. The children spoke so clearly and are a credit to our school. Follow the link below to see the video.
We will also be learning about road safety during the week.
Poppy Appeal
Poppies and other Remembrance Sunday items are on sale in school. It is 50 p for a poppy and other prices are listed here.
Student Ambassadors Deliver Manners Awards
Our team of student ambassadors were very busy at the end of last half term delivering certificates to all the children who had been nominated by their teachers for a school values award. The school value this term was ‘Manners’. Well done to all of the children who received an award. This term's theme is Kindness.
Uniform
We have seen a few children coming to school not dressed in uniform, especially wearing trainers. Below are our expectations for uniform.
SWEATSHIRT: Logo sweatshirt or a plain red sweatshirt or cardigan.
SKIRT/TROUSERS: Black or dark grey skirts/pinafore or trousers/shorts/ red check summer dress
SHIRT White polo shirts underneath sweatshirts. For September, no red shirts please.
SHOES: Black flat school shoes – no trainers.
PE KIT
● Plain white t shirt / black shorts/ Plimsolls or trainers for inside P.E.
● Trainers for outdoor games.
● Jogging bottoms or dark coloured track suits may be worn in cold weather. (Please make sure your child has outdoor PE kit as they will be doing PE outside, in the cold, unless it is raining)
Please note very large bows and other large hair accessories are not to be worn in school.
Digital watches and Analogue watches only allowed in school – No Smart watches or Fitbits please.
Earrings
Whilst earrings (studs) can be worn to school, it is important that they are removed on PE days. If your child can remove them on their own, this can be done at school, however, children cannot wear earrings or any other jewellery for PE. Adults cannot remove them for the children. If your child cannot take them out independently, we ask that they are not worn on PE days.
Lost Property
We have many items of lost property in our cupboard. If your child has lost something at school please do not assume it is lost. We may have it in school. Please ask at the office if your child has lost something.
Dates For Your Diary
Nursery and Reception will be performing a nativity play. Dates and times TBA.
Term Dates for the 2023-24 School Year will be coming out to parents in the near future.
Attendance
Please look in your child's book bag next week as we will be sending out letters about every child’s attendance. You will find out if your child is in the red, green or amber zone.
