Message from Miss Deans
The school term is flying by and the children are continuing to make us proud with their hard work and effort.
Next week there is planned strike action by the NEU, teacher's union on February 1st. As things stand, we plan to remain open and will not be closing. There is a small chance that this situation may change for some groups of children and so please keep a close eye on text messages and emails running up to Wednesday.
Please read all the messages in today's newsletter as there is a lot of information.
Have a lovely weekend.

Please remember your child needs to bring their book bag every day. Letters may be given out and books may be changed on any day so we need book bags in school please. Please keep your child's school books in their book bags so we don't lose books. We hope you are enjoying our bedtime book bags as well.
Children in Year 1 and some children in Year 2 are now bringing home Read, Write, Inc books. Your child may also be given another book to read, as the RWI books get changed every three or five days and so this will give them something else to read. Speak to your child's class teacher if there are any problems.
All pupils are expected to read three times a week. This table shows the percentage of children in each class who have read three times this week at home.
To make the expected progress, pupils need to read at home three times weekly. Please support your child with reading at home. If you need some help with achieving this please speak to your child's class teacher.
The children return to school after the Easter break on Monday 17th April. This was changed earlier in the year. Apologies for any inconvenience or confusion.
May Day Bank Holiday will be on Monday 1st May and the King's Coronation will be on Monday 8th May. The school will be closed on these two days.
It is children's mental health week from 6th to the 12th February. We will be having special assemblies during the week to talk about children mental health.
Each class has a worry monster. Children can share their worries using the classroom worry monster. They can do this anonymously or use their name. Mrs Billingham or the class teacher will be able to talk to the pupil or have a discussion in the class circle time.
We have now introduced Trusted Trev. Certain members of staff carry a small worry monster on their lanyard. Pupils can talk to any adult with a Trusted Trev worry monster at any time about any worries they have. We will always listen and give time to children and support them in any way we can.
We had a fantastic time last Friday at our Lunar New Year celebrations. The children took part in activities for the day to learn about Chinese culture and the yearly celebrations including writing about the Chinese New Year story, descriptions of chinese dragon dances, creating Chinese lanterns and attempting Chinese writing. This day is a part of our new programme of enrichment events which we will be taking part in to cover social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.
To sign up for the above course, please follow the link below.
On 28th of February the school are very lucky to have the children's poet, Ian Bland, visiting school for workshops with the pupils throughout the day. To find out more about him and his poetry please follow the link. https://www.ianbland.com/
Ian Bland will be selling his humorous poetry books at the end of the day on 1st March. He is a very engaging poet and speaker and I am sure that after the day pupils will be asking for his book. They will be available to buy using cash or contactless card at the price of £6.99 each.
Term Dates for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years can now be found on the school website.
We have conducted our student well-being survey. This asked children a number of questions about what they think about our school. We are pleased to say that 90% of our pupils are happy at school. 90% of our pupils feel safe at school and 95% of our pupils feel they are challenged to do their best in school. We will be using the results of the survey to help us to improve the well-being of all children in school.
All parents have been sent an email with a link to a parent questionnaire. Please complete the questionnaire so we can get parent views about school and continue to improve.
At the beginning and end of the day a number of cars and vans stop on the yellow lines in front of the school. This puts our pupils at risk and is against the law. We ask that parents stop parking in front of the school on the yellow lines.
The local road safety team will be conducting unannounced visits to school at the beginning and end of the day, in the near future, and will be issuing fines to cars that they see stopping on the zig zag yellow lines.
Please monitor your child's online activity. We have had an incident of our Year 6 pupils using social media. and sending inappropriate messages to each other. Misuse of social media causes great harm to children and we are constantly talking to our pupils about online safety. Social media like Snap chat and What's app are set with an age restrictions. Snap chat should only be used by over 13s. Children under 13 should not be using these apps.
The whole school will be learning about on-line safety in Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 7th February.
