Monday 16th September
Message from Miss Emson
Welcome to our first newsletter of the term. The children have settled quickly and got straight into their routines for learning. And the buzz of excitement around our new values - DANCE - is palpable - more information to come!
It has been a rather unpredictable couple of weeks with the weather and I’m sure it will set to continue so can we ask that coats are brought daily.
Children should’ve received book bags so if they haven’t, or you have misplaced them we still have some left but these will need to be bought.
As always, if you need to talk to us, we’re always on the gates and the doors in the mornings and after school - this is a great way to pass a quick message on. We also use class dojo, emails, Twitter(x) to communicate key messages so please ensure we have your up to date contact details.
Next week we will be sending out key dates for the year ahead to give you plenty of notice of those events happening across the year. We are also hosting parental engagement workshops this year so watch out for those dates too!
Miss Emson
Principal
Please encourage your child to read three times a week at home. This is a homework expectation of the school. We have rewards for children who read 3 times a week or more.
We are really proud that the school has won a trophy for equality in sport from the Football Association. Thank you to all the staff who support extra-curricular sports events to make this possible.
On Thursday 19th September, we are inviting parents of Year 6 children to attend a meeting to explain the expectations in year 6 and the end of Key Stage 2 SATs. We look forward to seeing as many parents there as possible.
On Friday 20th September at 2:45pm, we are inviting parents of pupils in Reception to come into school to find out about phonics, specifically our phonics scheme Read, Write, Inc. The information in the meeting is essential for parents to support pupils with their home reading. We look forward to seeing as many parents as possible.
On Thursday 10th October, the school will be celebrating World Mental Helath Day and we will be asking the children to come to school wearing something yellow. We will be talking to the children about mental health, where to go for help and how to support each other.
On Friday 6th September, the pupils joined thousands of children from all around the UK for a very special live online welcome-back assembly. The assembly reflected on events over the summer and explored the British values of Mutual Respect and Tolerance. It was an opportunity to celebrate who we are and the importance and strengths of our local communities.

If you wish to speak to a member of staff, or pass on information, you can contact the school by telephone on 01472 808608. Our school email address is :- gcaenquiries@harbourlearningtrust.com .
This email address is monitored constantly, every day and enquiries on this address will be dealt with promptly. Please do not use any other Harbour Learning Trust email to contact school as this will not be picked up by school promptly. You can also speak to staff on the school gates or on the doors. You can also use the messaging system on Class Dojo, but bear in mind that, as teachers are teaching all day, they may not read Class Dojo until the end of the school day, or the next day, therefore important messages need to be sent to the School Office on the above email address.
We pride ourselves on the safe and friendly atmosphere in and around our school. Parents who are aggressive or abusive will be asked to leave and the police called if necessary.

Thank you to all of our children and parents for supporting our attendance policies so far this year.
Please note these are our attendance systems which are in line with government policies and other schools in the area. You must contact the school every day your child is absent from school. If school has not been notified of an absence, you will receive a text message initially to allow you time to contact the school. If no contact has been made, a safety and well-being check will be made. A calling card will be left at the family home if no response is received. On day three of any absence a visit will be made by our pastoral team to your house. Every child must be spoken to or seen each week by a member of Great Coates staff. On some occassions where children are persistently absent (attendance below 90%) we will complete home visits on day one of an absence. Click on the link for more information about the government guidelines.

What have we been learning this week?
Please keep up to date with what the children have been learning with Twitter. The teachers share the pupils' learning so that you are kept informed. There are some marvellous achievements celebrated on our Twitter pages that the children are very rightly proud of.
