Friday 10th May
Message from Miss Deans
We have had a great few weeks in school since the last newsletter, with sporting events, the Trashion Show, lots of exciting learning in and out of the classroom and finally some sun-shine.
We are now enjoying the weather but please can parents apply suncream to pupils on sunny days before they come to school or provide a sun hat.
Next week is Year 6 SATs week. We hope this weekend the pupils can relax, enjoy the sunshine and not be worried about the tests. The pupils are very well prepared for the tests and before they know it they will all be over. We look forward to seeing Year 6 pupils in our special SATs breakfast club.
We have many exciting events coming up this term which are detailed below. Please can parents read this carefully and start putting important dates in their diaries. Letters will be coming out about all of these events in the near future.

Please encourage your child to read at home at least three times a week. It only needs to be 15 minutes at a time.
The table below shows the percentage of children in each class who have read three times last week. Green means the score has stayed the same or gone up. Orange means the score has gone down.
Please note the school will be closed on Friday July 5th for the Harbour Learning Trust Training Day.
Term dates can be found on our website at : https://gca.harbourlearningtrust.com/our-academy/term-dates/
Some Year 3 / 4 children was selected to represent the school in a fun morning learning cricket skills. Held at the Linden club and hosted by The Schools Sports Partnership and Dynamo Cricket. The children were taught the fundamental skills of playing cricket and had lots of fun at the same time. They were a credit to the school and the staff were extremely impressed with the effort they put in.
On Friday 24th May, the whole school will be learning about the Olympics. We have Leon Baptiste, 100m and 200m Commonwealth Gold Medalist visiting, we are taking part in the Sponsored Fitness challenge and each class will be learning about a different Olympic sport. On the day pupils need to come to school dressed in their PE kits.
Last week pupils brought home sponsor forms for the sponsored fitness challenge on Friday 24th March. Pupils can take home a range of rewards based on how much money they raise.
Sports for Champions raise funds so that sports men and women can train, take part in comptitions and educate young people in health, fitness and sports. Some of the money which is raised will go back into our school so that we can fund visitors and events which happen in school without asking for contributions.
Please note, sponsor money must be brought into school before the sponsored event. This can be brought to the front office, handed to staff on the gates or the doors or given to the child's class teacher. Please make sure you send in the sponsor form so we can make sure your child gets any rewards.
We want to send a big,'Thank you' to all parents who completed a parent questionairre on Parent's Evening. We are busy collating the responses and will be taking your view into account in the future.
The SAT's week is now upon us and we would like to remind parents that we have breakfast club open for all Year 6 pupils starting at 8am from Monday to Thursday next week. Please arrive promptly to allow the children time to relax and have something to eat before their test. The staff will all be here to support the Year 6 children through what can be a stressful time . Let's keep reminding them how great they are!
Below is a SAT's test timetable for the week. Any questions please contact the school.
Next week, Years 3,4 and 5 are taking part in a different activities including Forest School and PE. On the day the children's class are having these activities they need to come to school dressed for the activity, with their school uniform in a bag to change into.

On Friday 3rd May, the Year 1 and 2 children faced the elements to showcase their creation for the Trashion Show. Using Miss O'Neill as their model they stood in the rain and cheered her on. Unfortunately, we did not win the competition but the children had a great morning - despite the conditions!
Thank you to the support from the artists involved who also helped the children to create their dress. The dress was made from upcycled materials to recreate the four seasons. Well done to all involved, and well done to Ermine for winning the event!
