Message from the Principal:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this week’s newsletter.
I’d like to start with a huge well done to our year 3 and 4 pupils who represented us in the dodgeball competition this week. After discussing our community value and how we must reflect our values when representing the school, they came back with the most honest team award! This is fabulous; well done to all involved.
I’d also like to say thank you and well done to the pupil governors who have recently taken over the job of writing the year group summaries for the newsletter.
I’m sure you’ll agree they are going a great job!
As always, we’ve had a busy fortnight in school, with year 3 enjoying creating some artwork in the community at the local church, year 4 excelling in their swimming lessons, year 5 participating in a PE festival and year 6 impressing us all with their science experiments. Looking forwards, Mrs Burman is currently busy organising a community art event in the final week of term so please look out for details of this.
Finally from me, just a plea to all parents and carers to please label your children’s clothes clearly with their names. We completely understand your frustration when items go missing, but do find it difficult to help when items have no names in them. We appreciate your support with this.
That’s it for this week; please enjoy looking through the newsletter and have a lovely weekend everyone.
S Sargent
Principal
Lateness
Lateness not only affects your child’s education – it doesn’t allow them the social time to settle with their friends, they may feel upset or embarrassed, and it disrupts the rest of the class.
Being frequently late for school adds up to lost learning.
Registers close after 30 minutes, any pupils attending after that time are classed as unauthorised absence.

WBJS Newsround from the Pupil Governors
YEAR 3
In year 3 we are writing a story about a butterfly lion. We have been reading 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Morpurgo so it is based on this.
In maths we have been using the bus stop method to divide. It is pretty tricky but it is starting to get a bit easier.
In science we have been investigating light and shadows. We went out onto the playground and drew shapes around our shadows. We then investigated if the light source changed the size of the shadow.
In PE we have been learning tennis outside and practising our gymnastic skills inside.
Declan, Year 3.
YEAR 4
In maths we have been learning the bus stop method for division and trying to remember to exchange and leave remainders if needed.
In English we have been writing a diary about Finn's day with the dolphins. Did you know that Finn's mum was a selkie?
In science we have been learning about gas, liquids and solids. We have done some cool experiments which includes melting chocolate!
During the last few weeks we have been having swimming lessons at Havelock Academy. They are really fun and I'm hoping to get a certificate soon.
Ava, Year 4.
YEAR 5
We have been writing a diary based on when Hagrid bursts into Harry's house and how his whole world has been turned upside down overnight.
We have been practising our times table skills on TTRS this week and we are improving our soundcheck scores.
We have been discussing the community DANCE value this week and how we can help make a difference. We have discussed our new lunch time routine and have shared our opinions on what we would like to change with Mrs Sargent.
Nevaeh-Taya, Year 5.
YEAR 6
We are currently learning about WW2 and we have been researching about how Hitler made horrific concentration camps. From this, we have learned about the Holocaust.
In English, we have been learning about Anne Frank and we are planning a diary from her point of view.
In maths we have been learning about fractions and ratio. I find ratio easier even though we have done fractions for a few years. I need to keep practising!
In science we have experimented with cool prisms and looked at how they refract light to make rainbows!
Molly, Year 6.
Barcroft Stars
Every Friday, we celebrate the fantastic work and attitudes of our children during our Star of the Week assembly. Each teacher presents their Star of the Week, Reader of the Week and TTRS of the Week whilst our Learning Mentors award fastasic behaviour and kindess on the playground. We also celebrate our birthdays in style with a whole school sing-song and give out spot prizes for fantastic work and home reading.
If your child is chosen for this assembly, you will receive a message no later than Thursday. If you wish to attend, the assembly times are as follows:
Year 3 and Year 4 - 8.55am
Year 5 and Year 6 - 9.55am
Please can we remind all parents that children are required to read 3 times a week at home and their reading record is expected in school every day. There are a multitude of beneficial reasons why children should read at home: comfort and reassurance, confidence and security, relaxation, happiness and fun. It is essential that we are providing children with the time to explore stories, giving them time and full attention when reading them a story, asking questions to support comprehension and clear routines. Reading at home builds self-esteem, vocabulary, feeds imagination and even improves their sleeping patterns. Not to mention that it supports all areas of the curriculum and increases progress, development and understanding. We offer a well-stocked library and purple area which provides reading books to take home and children are rewarded when completing 3 home reads.
Congratulations to 3L in lower school who have achieved 91% and 5B in upper school who have achieved 100%.
Both classes have won this week's reading trophy!
Thank you for your support with this.
Year 3 had a wonderful time at Old Clee Church - the oldest building in Cleethorpes, its Saxon tower dates back to 1050. We were looking at it's architecture as part of this term's Art topic of sculpture. We spent time sketching and taking photos of parts of the church we found most interesting.
Science Ambassadors
Our science ambassadors work hard to help Mrs Shearer lead science and to give all children a voice. All important documents and decisions in science are run past them. They all love science and want everyone to love it as much as they do. They worked as a team to come up with a plan for British Science week, which is in March- watch this space for more information soon.

Concerns around social media influence in particular and the negative effects of this influence on body image for girls and boys have been around for years. In the age of generative AI this can only increase. My social feeds are awash with photorealistic images and they're all the same: so-called perfect body, composition, beauty. There's nothing in the way of different body shapes, diversity in people of colour etc. Simply speaking, AI can be very biased.
Internet Matters have some great, practical advice for parents about self-image, body image and identity which you can find here.
