Message from the Principal:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this week’s newsletter. As always, we have lots to share with you as it’s been a packed fortnight. Year 5 have been out at Clee Academy having a fabulous time learning about space, year 4 have enjoyed their trips to Brigg Heritage Centre, year 6 have really impressed during their art day and year 3 have been busy with mummification just to name a few! As you know we have also had our Ofsted inspection this week. Unfortunately, there are strict rules about when we can share the outcome with you, so as soon as we are able we will share the outcome and full report. Fingers crossed this will be before the summer break.
You should have received a text this morning to say that due to the weather forecast we have taken the decision to allow the children to come to school in PE kit on Monday. Please ensure they have sun cream and hats as the temperatures are predicted to soar.
On Thursday and Friday next week we will have our transition days where the children will spend the two days with their new classteachers in preparation for September. Our new year 2 pupils will be joining us on Friday too. A reminder to year 6 pupils that on secondary transition days, pupils go straight to their new schools and do not attend our school on those days.
Next week we will be sending out the form for you to tell us if you require enrichment club places on Friday afternoons from September. Please look out for this and return
asap so that we can ensure everyone has what they need well ahead of the summer break.
We have delivered a safety assembly regarding armed forces this weekend and asked children to confirm with parents the emergency plans if they were to get lost. We have also discussed sun and beach safety, so hopefully this will help everyone to have a fabulous and safe weekend. Please enjoy looking at what the children have been up to and have a lovely weekend everyone.

Principal
If you child is absent, please contact the school office via telephone rather than the enquires email so that we can log your child's absence before the registers close.
Since September 2024, we have an incredible 149 pupils with 97% attendance or more which is an amazing achievement. From this figure, an astounding 35 children still have 100%!
Over the last 3 years, our overall school attendance has improved by 2%, with our SEND pupils attendance improving by 3%. In the last year, our persistent absences are also down by 2%. Because of these improvements, our children have been able to access a wide range of learning at school including visitor workshops based around our curriculum and have even had the opportunity to take part in our future careers experience days throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support and as always, if you have any questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact the school office.

YEAR 3
Year 3 has been abuzz with fascinating new learning this week! In Science, the children have become budding botanists, investigating the clever ways plants spread their seeds through seed dispersal. They've been exploring how different seeds are adapted for wind, water, or even animal dispersal – a truly eye-opening experience! Our Maths lessons have seen them become data detectives, learning all about bar charts and how to accurately draw and interpret them to represent information. It's fantastic to see their analytical skills developing! And perhaps most memorably, in History, they've delved into the mysteries of Ancient Egypt, with a particularly hands-on (and perhaps slightly messy!) exploration of how to mummify an Egyptian. These diverse and engaging activities are truly bringing their curriculum to life!
YEAR 4
Last week, year 4 went on an exciting trip to the Brigg Heritage Centre to learn and explore about the Romans. The children had a wonderful day and were praised for their amazing attitudes whilst being there.
In school we have been learning about Roman settlements and have explored the city of Lincoln.
Whilst learning geography, we have been comparing the region of Campania with our own region in the UK. We now know that we both have coastlines but only Campania is home to volcanoes.
YEAR 5
This week we have been to Clee Academy for a taster day as part of their support into secondary school.
We have been planning our character and setting description for our magical stories!
In maths we have been converting units of measure, such as kg into g and ml into l.
In science we have been looking at dissolving. We conducted a science experiment to see if cold or warm water would dissolve the skittles the quickest.
YEAR 6
What a fantastic week of discovery we've had! In Science, the children have been absolutely captivated by the rainforests, exploring the fascinating animals that call them home and understanding the distinct layers of this incredible ecosystem.
We've also delved into the world of classification, learning how scientists group different living things – it's been wonderful to see their curious minds at work!
Our Art Day was a vibrant splash of creativity, with the children mastering water colour techniques and honing their blending skills. These artistic endeavors are not just for fun; they're also a brilliant preparation for our upcoming exploration into typography.
In school, we celebrate our reading success and the children with a significant reading milestone. We identify those children with 'Reading Certificates' for our rewards:
Bronze award - 150 reads
Silver award - 200 reads
Gold award - 250 reads
Diamond award - 300+ reads
These children are celebrated in the 'Star of the Week' assembly with a personalised certificate and given a corresponding badge to wear with pride!
What a fantastic two Sports Days we had last week! It was truly wonderful to see all our children participate with such enthusiasm and demonstrate incredible sportsmanship. From the thrilling sprint races to the joyful beanbag toss, every event was filled with smiles, cheers, and admirable effort. We were particularly impressed with how the children encouraged each other, celebrated successes, and showed resilience, even when things didn't go quite to plan. A huge thank you to all the staff for their hard work in organising such a memorable event, and to our wonderful parents and carers who came along to support and cheer. The atmosphere was electric, and it was a real testament to our thriving school community.
Last week we went to Brigg Hertigage Centre where we made mosaics, Roman shields and helmets, completed an archeological dig to find Roman artefacts and recreated Hadrians wall. The children had a fantastic day and were praised tremendously for their politeness and enthusiasm by the staff at the heritage centre.
Well done year 4!
On Friday our 'Social Action' team attended Blundell Park as part of their work with the Grimsby Town Foundation. It was noted how respectful our children were and how well they represented our school whilst out in the community.
Last week, pupils from Years 5 and 6 took part in an exciting Reading Challenge hosted by Cleethorpes Academy — and what a fantastic time they had!
The event was designed to spark a love for reading through fun activities, quizzes, and team challenges. The children were fully immersed and engaged throughout the afternoon. It was a great opportunity for them to work together, think creatively, and, most importantly, enjoy reading in a whole new way.
Teachers and staff praised the enthusiasm shown by all the pupils, and many children said they enjoyed participating in the challenge. The event not only celebrated reading but also encouraged teamwork, confidence, and curiosity.
A big thank you to Cleethorpes Academy for hosting such a brilliant event!
The children were lucky enough to experience a taster day at Clee Academy all about Space! However the day wasn't completely about science, they also got to get involved with some PE, DT and music too - some inspiration from which may appear in our next showcase. The Y5 children had a fantastic day, getting to work with peers across the year group, and impressed Clee Academy staff with their engagement, maturity and the outcomes they produced. Students really enjoyed the practicality of the lessons, especially having a little alien friend they could all take home with them - teachers too!
Eighteen excited children gathered, their voices buzzing with anticipation for the annual singing festival. Each performance was filled with enthusiasm and passion which was a delight to see. The festival was a true celebration of youthful talent, fostering a love for music and creating unforgettable memories for everyone involved.

Our recent Mini Police session was a truly insightful experience for the children, especially as they engaged in a thoughtful discussion about diversity. With the guidance of our local police support, the children explored what makes each of us unique, recognizing and celebrating differences in culture, background, and personal characteristics.
In 2024 alone, 249 lives were lost to accidental drowning across the UK and Ireland.
The Humber region is a stunning place to explore, with its beautiful coastline, rivers and lakes. But water can be unpredictable and dangerous. Even on a warm, sunny day, the water remains very cold - cold-water shock can have deadly consequences.
Remember: Float to Live
If you’re in trouble in the water:
Tilt your head back, keeping ears submerged
Relax and breathe normally
Spread arms and legs to stay afloat
Once calm, call for help or swim to safety
Water safety tips:
Follow warning and safety signs
Let someone know where you’re going if heading out alone
Watch out for slip or trip hazards near water
Stay clear of unstable riverbanks and cliff edges
If someone falls into deep water:
Call 999 immediately for emergency help
Use the What3Words app to share your exact location
Never enter the water to try to save someone.
