Message from the Principal:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the final newsletter of the year! I really can’t believe that I am writing that; it really has flown by. I will keep my messages short today as I have an end of term letter coming out on Wednesday with all of my final messages and information for September. Please look out for this. I must just say a huge well done to our year 6 children for their wonderful SATs results. I will send details in my letter but once again they are fantastic and well above national averages. I am super proud of every one of our children; they truly have got what they deserved after all of their hard work. Please enjoy reading the newsletter and have a lovely weekend (particularly Sunday night hopefully!).

A well-earned well done to those children who have achieved 98.5% or above attendance this year. We also wish to send a fantastic well done to those children whose attendance has improved over the year - you're hard work and dedication to school has not gone unmissed!
Reminder - we can administer medication in school which has been prescribed by the GP. We just need you to complete a permissions form at the office. If you need any more information, please don't hesitate to contact the office.
The whole school have also enjoyed celebrating England's semi-final win and we are sending them all of our luck for Sunday night's final! COME ON ENGLAND!

General Information
At William Barcroft Junior School we pride ourselves on having high expectations about the school uniform. Recently we have noticed that a number of children have not been wearing appropriate school shoes. If your child arrives at school without the correct footwear they will be provided with a pair of plimsolls to wear for the day. Thank you in advance for your support
Please do not ride bikes and scooters on the school grounds, this is for children and adults. This is for the safety of our children, thank you.
Please note, electric scooters are not allowed on the school site due to health and safety regulations and not having the facilities to store them in school.

Time to reflect on another busy year at WBJS...
YEAR 3
What a year! The children settled incredibly well since joining William Barcroft and have had the best first year here. The Year 3 team are so proud of how well the children have done and the amount of progress they have made!
It seems so long ago that we learnt all about the Stone Age and had our very own Stone Age day in school learning all about how lives were lived thousands of years ago! We then moved into Spring term and thoroughly enjoyed learning about natural disasters before then becoming fascinated when learning all about living things including plants in the Summer term.
Some of our favourite days have been World Book Day where we immersed ourselves into a range of different books and our trip to Far Ings where we took part in a range of activities including mini-beast hunting! We have also enjoyed sharing our learning with parents and carers in our learning showcases throughout the year.
Thank you, parents and carers, for your support this year and we wish all children the best of luck with moving into Year 4. We can’t wait to watch them continue to shine!
YEAR 4
How is it July already!? Our year 4 team have had a fantastic year and we have been reminiscing about our journey recently. Way back in Autumn term, the children were fascinated by their Ancient Egypt topic and wrote some great newspaper reports on how Tutankhamun’s tomb was found. They also questioned our Career’s Day visitors in the hall which helped to set their aspirations high for the future.
In the Spring, the children got stuck into their rainforest topic and learnt how to improve their green footprint to save planet Earth. We especially enjoyed reading The Explorer and almost felt like we were part of the story at points. Around this, they were brave during Science week by handling rainforest animals and celebrated their favourite authors on World Book Day. Miss Beesley even turned her classroom into Hogwarts!
Finally, our Summer term hit and we have worked hard to get ourselves year 5 ready. Our handwriting, focus, determination and progress have all made fantastic strides in the right direction and we cannot wait to get going with a new, fresh year in September.
YEAR 5
Wow! We have done so much and it seems so long ago that we started in September. Us year 5 staff are so immensely proud of everyone’s accomplishments this year. You will make amazing Year 6 role models and smash your SATs next year.
We started by looking at the Tudor era and leaning all about King Henry VIII and his eventful lifestyle. Then we learned all about Space and had the Planetarium visit our school, as we learned all about different planets and the moon. We have then moved on to our rivers and oceans topic, which has been fascinating!
Alongside our learning, we have enjoyed all our learning showcases and performing them to parents. Our visit to Havelock was a brilliant highlight as we got to experience a secondary school setting. Finally, but more importantly, we thoroughly enjoyed our graduation and preparing for Year 6 – it was such a special event.
A massive thank you to all Year 5 staff and their hard work, the children for working even harder with their work and the parents for attending events at school and making the events special. Good luck in Year 6 everyone!
YEAR 6
What a year it has been for year 6! We are so incredibly proud of their achievements, they have all worked so hard and we are certain that they will continue to do well in whatever they put their minds to at secondary school.
Just thinking back to September and our world war 2 topic, how we were all captivated by Anne Frank’s story and how we enjoyed our visit to the Holocaust museum in Newark back in October. The atrocities of world war 2 shall never be forgotten and this was a very poignant topic for us.
Aside from the all of the revision and SATs preparations after Christmas we enjoyed our evolution topic. We loved learning about fossils and Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. There were some great debates held in classes about creationism vs evolution and to this day we still don’t have a definitive answer!
Lastly, we’d just like to take the time to thank you, our supportive parents, for all of your efforts this year. We know that year 6 isn’t an easy year but you’ve played your role in ensuring that your child is well prepared each and every day and are able to come to school and give their very best. Thank you.

Thank you to all the parents/ carers who attended our fabulous learning showcases this week. It is a great way to round off the term with the children and allows you all to see what inspiring, creative work the children have been completing in school. Last week our creative students shared some fantastic talents in our termly talent showcase. This gives the children the opportunity to display their talents and hobbies to the rest of the school and it is amazing to see their confidence grow. There were some well-polished entries and we are so proud of our own little talent superstars! Well done WBJS team!
We are extremely happy with how many children have enjoyed visiting our new library this year. The buzz and interest has been no stop and we continue to update our library catalogue with new fantastic authors.
To ensure that our library is fully prepared for September, we ask that all children ensure their library books are back in school as soon as possible. We also ask that the children's home reading books are returned in the final week before the Summer holidays so that we can ensure the purple reading area is full stocked and replenished before the new academic year.

A fabulous year for maths this year. There seems to have been a real buzz about the subject which has been great to see. We’ve recently taken part in some training whereby we are encouraging our children to use physical resources to support their learning and we aim to continue this next year.
We will also continue to push our understanding of key mathematical facts next year especially with our multiplications knowledge and tables facts. Brand new Rockstar trophies will be introduced into our assemblies in September so keep your eyes peeled!
We will also host our maths challenge in the Autumn term too so over the summer keep your maths brains ticking!
When school is out and the weather is nice, kids and adults alike can enjoy the freedom while stretching the brain. Summer is a rich opportunity to bring mathematical thinking into these fun indoor and outdoor activities. Explore numbers, engineering, measurements and more with structured maths activities or ask the right questions to evoke mathematical thinking in almost any activity.

On Friday 12th July, the choir will be performing at Grimsby Central Hall in a performance of Opera North’s Wonderland Restored. They will be singing on stage with children from Weelsby School and the cast of Opera North. They will also be accompanied by an orchestra. The choir have been learning the songs over the last term and have had two workshops in preparation. It has been fun to learn the songs in an unfamiliar style. Please come along and support them.
Thank you to all who came to see the art exhibition after school, it was lovely to see you all and the excellent work our children have been doing with their new teachers. Their boards looked fantastic and showed just how creative they all are!

At the end of June Snapchat updated the app with further safety features, including updates to account blocking functionality and enhanced friending safeguards, e.g.:
Block new friend requests sent from bad actors who were already blocked by the user, but sent from a different account from the same device.
More frequent reminders about which friends they share their location with on Snap Maps.
Further pop-up warnings if users add a friend who doesn't share mutual friends or is not a part of their contacts.
