If you'd like to become involved in the work of the HTA Indigenous Education Working Group, please be in touch with Monica Martens, the Indigenous Advocacy Chair, at indigenous@hanoverteachers.com or mmartens@hsd.ca.

We meet monthly to support each other, plan events, provide teacher learning, and advocate for Indigenous Education in the Hanover School Division.

We plan events such as visits to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, walking with the Bear Clan/Mama Bear Clan, visits to the Petroforms, and to see plays written by Indigenous playwrights.

Teachers planning to implement Indigenous perspectives in their curriculum can reach out to the HTA Ind Ed Working Group for consultation, co-planning, and resource suggestions. We know opportunities to learn about implementing Indigenous Education are limited in southeastern Manitoba and this can make teachers hesitant to begin because there's so much we don't know. The HTA Ind Ed Working Group is here for you!

We meet to celebrate successes and come alongside when things are hard.  We creatively talk about solutions to problems.

We are just beginning this work.  Right now we are supporting teachers in schools who want to advocate for school-wide land acknowledgements, professional learning, cultural teachings, etc.

Several working group members enjoy putting together resources for classroom teachers and schools to use.

You will find a collection of these resources below.
