During the winter months, the Hanover HABET program temporarily suspends high-altitude balloon launches. Extreme seasonal weather conditions—including high winds, low temperatures, and increased risk of difficult recovery operations in remote backcountry areas—make launches unsafe and logistically challenging. Flights resume in the spring when conditions are more favorable for safe launch and recovery.
