Koichi Mori suffered a cervical cord injury in a sea accident while studying in the United States. After graduating from Waseda University, in March 2008, at the age of 26, he established the NPO Laugh, and in 2015, it became a social welfare corporation from a non-profit organization, which is rare in Japan. Currently, he is engaged in 11 projects at four facilities for the welfare of the disabled and elderly in the community. In 2020, he established Maurice, Inc. and started a manufacturing business for people with disabilities as well as a welfare business consultant. He is currently conducting research on sleep for people with disabilities and developing a monitoring device to watch over their lives. After receiving a doctoral degree in Biology, I developed an autoimmune neurological disease (still undiagnosed). Three years later, while studying abroad, the disease progressed to the point where I could no longer walk, and I gave up my career as an experimental scientist. After six months in the hospital, I was discharged in a wheelchair. I returned to the university and became a researcher in the field of barrier-free access. Currently, I am working on designing an accessible science laboratory that can be used by students with disabilities. Also, I hope to resume my research there in the future.
