Mrs. Hennen's Teacher Goals

1. Recognize Student Accomplishments

  • Document student progress through random progress checks directly related to each student's IEP
  • Praise students regularly for assignment completion, scores on classroom work, and increases in scores on classroom work
  • Assess Present Levels of Performance for students at least annually and include information in current IEPs
  • Encourage paraprofessionals to recognize and praise individual student growth

2. Have High Expectations for Student Performance

  • Have clear expectations for students about behavior and performance and discuss with students
  • Convey behavior and academic expectations with paraprofessionals working with each student to continue to help the student achieve academic growth
  • Review IEP goals and objectives for each student to ensure that goals are specific to each student's individual needs
  • Document progress at the end of each quarter and share that information with parents/guardians
  • Set goals with each student to develop an individual growth plan for NWEA scores

3. Incorporate Technology in all Areas of Instruction

  • Use educational websites and games to supplement instruction and keep students engaged
  • Use iPads to aid students with their accommodations and modifications in accordance with each student's individual needs and IEP
  • Use websites available through the Midwest Special Education Cooperative to help students meet their IEP goals and graduation requirements

4. Effectively Evaluate Student Performance and use Evaluation Data to Drive Instruction and Improve Curriclulum

  • Use achievement test scores from evaluations to drive IEPs and student's goals and objectives
  • Use classroom data, transition information, NWEA and MCA scores, teacher input, student input, parent input, and evaluation assessments to drive instruction
  • Participate in monthly Child Study Team meetings with special education teachers, classroom teachers, school nurse, speech pathologist, and school counselor to develop growth plans for struggling students

5. Provide Individual Assistance that is Targeted to Improve Student Performance

  • Use proven interventions based on student needs
  • Schedule paraprofessionals in accordance with student's IEPs
  • Help students become as independent as possible in the classroom by providing only accommodations and modifications that are necessary for student growth and future independence
  • Work with students during their designated times according to their IEP minutes and make each class period meaningful
  • Be available before and after school to help students in all subject areas
  • Be available by email or phone to answer questions

6. Engage Parents, Teachers, Staff and the Community in School Activities and Learning Opportunities

  • Discuss accomplishments with parents
  • Communicate progress towards IEP goals with parents 3 times per year

7. Provide Opportunities for Students to Learn and Develop their Individual Strengths

  • Use test scores and data to drive instruction to make it individualized for each student
  • Encourage the development of life skills and work skills to help students transition from high school
