Recognize Student Accomplishments:
- Display student work in the hallway and in the classroom
- Share pictures/information with the Hancock Record
- Post pictures on my website and on shutterfly.com
- Independent student accomplishments - "Responsibility Club"
- Hand out Character Trait awards at the end of the quarter
Have High Expectations for Student Performance:
- State academic standards determine appropriate lessons, themes, and curriculum throughout the year
- Communicate consistently with parents
- Create, discuss and post classroom rules/expectations. (Communicate these with parents)
- Monitor student progress in reading readiness skills using Fast Bridge with students who are below target
- Use NWEA scores to drive instruction, create small groups to focus on specific skills that need to be improved, and work one-on-one with students as needed
- Incentives for good behavior - prize from prize box
Incorporate Technology in all areas of Instruction:
- Interact daily with the Smartboard
- Students use computers in the classroom weekly
- Teacher Webpage
- Students use ipads and ipods during Daily 5
- Students go to the computer lab at least once a week
- Students use different websites to work on reading skills - Razz Kids and MAP Reading
- NWEA computer testing
Effectively Evaluate Student Performance and Use Evaluation Data to Drive Instruction and Improve Curriculum:
- Fast Bridge helps determine individual student needs in reading
- NWEA computer testing
- Math, reading, and spelling assessments are used to determine instructional needs
- Create and work with needs based groups in reading and math to target and master specific skills
- Attend teacher conferences and workshops
- Meet with PLC group
Provide Individual Assessment that is Targeted to Improve Student Performance:
- Para assistance in the classroom
- Special Education - IEP's
- Title 1 assistance
- Meet with students before and after school for additional help
- Meet with students during recess
- Reading Corp (helps students who are below target in reading to reach target)
- Work with volunteers in the classroom who work with students and provide immediate feedback
- Communicate with parents
Encourage Parents, Teachers, Staff, and the Community in School Activities and Learning Opportunities:
- Volunteers come and lead centers every Friday
- Communicate with parents via phone, email, teacher webpage and a weekly newsletter
- Grandparent's Day
- Volunteers come help at different classroom parties (Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day)
- Volunteers are encouraged to chaperone field trips
