CareerREADY SYEP 2025
Requirements
Youth must:
Be between the ages of 14 and 21 on July 1st, 2025*
Reside in one of the 5 boroughs of New York City
Currently attend a CareerREADY High School
Be legally allowed to work in the U.S.
Submit WLG required forms and documents
Spots are limited and youth are enrolled first come, first serve according to the forms and documents turned in.
*Youth ages 22 - 24 may still be eligible for a non-CareerReady SYEP initiative. Please contact the provider of your choice to check your eligibility.

HANAC is one of many CareerREADY providers for SYEP. If you are not a student at one of our partnered schools, please ask your school about applying to CareerREADY SYEP or choose a Community-Based provider near you.
To be enrolled in SYEP, applicants must submit the required forms & documents on the SYEP Participant Site by the deadline provided in the selection email. Applicants can only access the SYEP side of the Participant Site if their application is manually selected by the provider. Selected applicants will be emailed with further instructions.

Details of each required form & document are located below. Community-Based SYEP and other SYEP initiatives may have different requirements - please contact your provider if you are applying to a non-CareerREADY SYEP initiative.
Important Notes:
Enrollment Deadline: PENDING, or until spots fill.
Some requirements are for Older Youth (16-24 as of 7/1/25) only. Younger Youth (14-15 as of 7/1/25) will not need to submit the W-4 form, working papers, and proof of employment authorization.

PES, I-9, and W-4 Forms
**W-4 form is not required for Younger Youth.**

Please use your legal name (as shown on your Social Security Card) when filling out and signing these forms. Do not leave any questions blank. **W-4 form is not required for Younger Youth.**
Validity:
If any questions are left blank, the form is invalid.
Signatures should contain your legal first and last name (no initials).
If you are a minor (17 years old or younger), the PES requires the signature of your parent/guardian.
IT-2104 is not a required form. However, if you do choose to fill out the form, please still complete it correctly.
Proof of Age
Proof of Age can be the following documents:
U.S. Passport Book (signature required)
U.S. Passport Card
Permanent Resident Card
Employment Authorization Card
NYS ID (Driver's or Nondriver's License)
Benefit Card (must have photo of applicant)
Birth Certificate
Validity:
IDs cannot be expired at the time of your enrollment.

Social Security Card
Social Security Card (signature required) is a requirement to be enrolled with no exceptions.

Working Papers
If you are 18 or older by program start date, you do not need working papers. **Working Papers are not required for Younger Youth.**
16 or 17 Years of Age Working Papers (signature required) can be submitted after enrollment, but students with working papers will be prioritized during the enrollment period. Without working papers, you cannot begin your internship.

Validity:
Must be signed.

Proof of Address
Proof of Address must have either your name or your parent/guardian's name. It can be the following documents:
Insurance Mail
Bank or Credit Card Statement
Deed
Mortgage
Current Lease
Official Mail from a City, State, or Federal Agency
Home Utility Bill
Validity:
Documents must be dated within 6 months of your enrollment date. Dates must include month, day, and year.
Address must match your current address exactly.
Do not submit envelopes. Do not submit mail from non-official government agencies (such as private colleges and corporations).
Bank/Credit Card statements must show account activity. Utility Bills must show the bill breakdown. To be on the safe side, take a picture/scan of the ENTIRE document (unfolded and all 4 corners visible). You may hide/cross out sensitive information such as account numbers.

Proof of Employment Authorization
**Proof of Employment Authorization is not required for Younger Youth.**
Proof of Employment Authorization can be the following:

Report Card dated within the last 6 months

US Military Card/Draft Card
Voter's Registration Card
I-94, I-551, I-797 forms
Certificate of Naturalization

Official Photo ID
Official Photo ID can be the following documents:
Photo ID from a city agency (such a Department of Education school)
Photo ID from a state agency (such as a NYS ID)
Photo ID from a federal agency (such as a U.S. Passport)
Validity:
IDs cannot be expired at the time of your enrollment.
Do not submit a cropped photo on your ID - submit the entire ID.
School ID should be from your current school.

Proof of School Status
Proof of School Status must prove that you attend one of HANAC's CareerREADY Manhattan schools.
It can be the following documents:
Official School Grid Schedule
Official Student Program Card
Validity:
Documents must be from the 2024 school year semester.
Official School Transcripts or Report Cards that do not show the 2024 school year term cannot be accepted.

Selective Service Registration
If you are under 18 by program start date or assigned female at birth, you do not need to sign up for selective service.
Selective Service Registration is a requirement for males living in the United States from age 18 to 26. The SSS site states that: "Failure to register with Selective Service is a violation of the Military Selective Service Act."

This can be submitted after enrollment if you are not yet 18 but will be by program start date.

Proof of Disability
If you are not disabled or do not identify as disabled on your program application, you do not need to turn in proof of disability.
Proof of Disability can be official documentation as applicable certifying disability from a:

ACS
HRA
School
Social Service Agency
Other Authorized Entity

Enrolled Participants Only
Program Expectations
Youth must:
Commit to attending/completing the program activities.
Check and respond to emails in a timely manner (suggested frequency is once a day).
Act professionally around provider staff, worksite staff, and other participants.
Professional behavior includes but is not limited to: following virtual meeting etiquette (ex. keeping mic muted until called on), acting respectfully around others, abiding by dress codes
Be honest about their participation in the program.
Examples of Unacceptable Behavior:
"Ghosting" - regularly not showing up to sessions, not completing activities, and not responding to emails.
Giving attitude or continuously making unreasonable demands to staff, instructors, and/or other participants.
Bullying of any kind.
Lying about attendance/hours worked.
Participants may be dismissed from the program if they do not meet program expectations.
