An Explanation of Title I and What it Means for Tarrant
There are exciting things happening at Cesar Tarrant Middle School! One of the most exciting things is that the Title I, federally funded, program will continue to be provided offering many opportunities for Tarrant students, families and staff. Below is a brief overview of Title I and the support available to Tarrant families.
Title I: A definition
Title I, as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, is a federally funded program through which school districts receive funding to provide supplemental instruction for those students who qualify. Schools are found eligible for Title I aid based on the percentage of students who receive free and reduced lunch. However, Title I services are provided for all students who attend Tarrant Middle School and qualify as needing assistance in language arts and/or mathematics regardless of income.

Children achieve at a faster rate with the help and support of Title I instruction.
Research indicates that about nine of every ten students participating in Title 1 programs make gains in their academic and social development.
Additional staff to provide academic resources and ensure the emotional, physical and social well being of Tarrant students.

Where and What is the Title I Family Resource Center (FRC)?
The Family Resource Center is located across the hall from the main office, room 116-A. The FRC offers resources and community services to support families, students and staff. Resources available include; school supplies, an academic lending library, a mini computer lab for families to gain internet access to look for jobs, create a resume and check Parent Portal. The FRC also provides a welcoming space for families to meet with teachers and staff.

Principle 4: Family Participation in Decision-making:
The school recognizes the entitlement of parents to be consulted and participate in decisions concerning their own children. The school is genuinely inclusive recognizing and valuing the feedback of parents concerning student education while creating a sense of shared responsibility, ownership and accountability.

Principle 5: Engage the Greater Community:
The school places a strong focus on building and creating partnerships external to the school. The school recognizes the strengths and talents that exist in the communities that influence student learning and development and seeks to use these to strengthen and support the school, students and their families. It also recognizes that the school can be a focal point for communities to come together and engage in capacity building and renewal. The school views itself as an important community asset and has community representatives on the school’s governing body. There is a clear recognition from the school that the greater community plays an integral role in the educational success of the school.
