Mr. Nicholas Conty is the proud Director of Bands at Kecoughtan High School. Currently in his 16th year of teaching, Mr. Conty was previously the Assistant Director of Bands at Kecoughtan High School and Director of the Spratley Middle School/Gifted Center Band from 2010 to 2013. He has served as Fine Arts Instructional Leader at Kecoughtan High School, as well as VBODA District VIII Concert Band Assessment Chair and All-District Band Host. Under his direction, the Kecoughtan High School band program has received numerous Superior and Excellent ratings, including Virginia Honor Band status in 2019. The Kecoughtan Symphonic Band has competed and placed in several national music festivals during his tenure, in such cities as New York City, Myrtle Beach, and Orlando. He is an active private lesson teacher, offering help on saxophone and clarinet. He is a former member of the Tidewater Winds and the Virginia Wind Symphony as an alto and baritone saxophonist.
A native of the Hampton Roads area, he attended and graduated from Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, VA. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While at U of M, he was a member of the Michigan Marching Band, University Band, MMB Saxophone Ensemble, and Hockey Pep Band. Mr. Conty was also an active member of Kappa Kappa Psi, national honorary college band fraternity, and served as Corresponding Secretary his final year of college.
Outside of music, Mr. Conty enjoys pursuing his passions of recreational running and woodworking. Mr. Conty resides in Hampton along with his amazing wife Leigha, son Luca, and dog C.C.
