Virtual Summer School (VSS) is designed for rising 8th through rising 12th-grade students. VSS provides secondary students with the opportunity for anytime, anywhere online learning. Students may take courses for initial credit and/or credit recovery. While there is no daily attendance requirement for virtual courses, failure to complete assignments daily could result in the lack of course completion. Students must exhibit excellent time management when working as a virtual learner.

Out of District Students

We are excited to be able to offer our Virtual Summer School experience to out of district students. We have had much success over the past years accommodating students as far out as Maryland.

Out of district students should contact Carla Mahn, Director; Student Development and Counseling, (757) 727-2760 for registration information. Students must submit a completed Out-of- District Student information Form signed by the principal/designee of their home school.

NCAA / Virtual Courses

NCAA has very specific criteria for approving “non traditional coursework” which may include online or virtual courses. HCS recommends parents/students consult NCAA and/or the college of their choice prior to enrolling in any online course.
