Research starts with asking questions. 

  • Read reference sources to learn more about your topic.

  • Create a purpose statement. Complete this sentence: "I want to learn about..."

  • Form your guiding question by turning your purpose statement into a question.

  • Think about related topics you could investigate to help answer your guiding question. You may need to read some reference sources.
