Hampton City Schools will reimagine the 3rd grade through 8th-grade experience to vertically align to the high school academy model and backward map the Portrait of a Hampton Graduate.
Career and Life Skills: Integrates and applies classroom knowledge to navigate the real world.
Content Knowledge: Achieves and applies appropriate academic and career-focused knowledge.
Communication, Collaboration, and Leadership: Builds connections and works with individuals and diverse communities.
Positive Sense of Self and Purpose: Demonstrates mindfulness of self, others, and personal journey.
The transformation will take place through the three transformative strands to see what supports, structures, and systems need to be in place to successfully transition students through their middle school years.
Transforming Teaching and Learning: Creating meaningful learning experiences that enable students to learn and apply academic, 21st-century, and technical knowledge and skills to real-world challenges that equip them for success in high school, college, and careers.
Transforming the School Experience: Creating and maintaining the career and interest-themed experiences that align with local industry needs and the 16 academies and 44 pathways in the Academies of Hampton while building the collaborative culture, structures, and practices necessary to transform teaching and learning and to capitalize on community engagement.
Transforming Business and Civic Engagement: Engaging employers, educators, and community leaders in building and sustaining transformed middle schools that promote community growth and prosperity by preparing students for future work and citizenship.
