As a visual artist, I like to depict a range of emotions and subjects, but the most satisfaction is from work that represents Black and African people, women, and the environment. These three topics, to me, are the most interesting to learn about. I’d like to show the struggle, joy, and simple lives of these topics. I desire to learn more about the complexity of each so that my art would portray each study accurately and distinctively. I want to have knowledge of the personal experiences of black people and women, and knowledge of the environment, and how we can create a sustainable future. Something I really love about these studies is the way they overlap. I find the idea of researching such subjects so fascinating because there are so many details to learn that I could not imagine, so that when I’m working on art involving one of these subjects, it becomes its own little research query.
