May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Celebrate the importance of a healthy mind this May. See Ms. Griess or Ms. Sieminski for a specially curated list of books for mindful reading.

The Book Club and the Green Club hosted a service project throughout March where students and faculty were encouraged to donate their new and gently used books to BookSmiles. In April, 43 students delivered an extraordinary 2,024 book donation to BookSmiles in Pennsauken and spent their day sorting and organizing books to help Larry Abrams and his crew continue their mission.
BookSmiles is a non-profit organization that "promotes literacy and the joy of reading by giving books to children who need them most throughout Philadelphia and New Jersey" (Mission). They are one of only a few "book banks" in the country. To learn more, visit BookSmiles.org.

May is the time to recognize, celebrate, and drive awareness for the following themes:
- Special Education Week: May 14th to 20th: New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education - NJCIE supports inclusive education for all students with disabilities and strives to build sustainable inclusive communities through advocacy, integrity, collaboration, and expertise. Their annual Inclusion Works Poster Contest typically launches during National Inclusive Schools Week in December and runs through the end of May. They also provide resources and services for parents, educators, and school districts.
- Better Hearing and Speech Month: ASHA offers free templates, social media graphics, public service announcements, infographics, and consumer education handouts to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of ASHA members in providing life-altering treatment.
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month: Selected resources for teachers from the Library of Congress, National Archives, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service and the Smithsonian Institution. Explore exhibits, collections, audio recordings, videos, and images all honoring Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!
- Mental Health Awareness Month: Webinars | National Center for School Mental Health - Free webinars to promote high-quality, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive school mental health supports and services. Recordings and pdfs of past webinars are available as well.
- National Physical Fitness and Sports Month: New Jersey’s State Parks, Forests and Historic Sites | NJDEP - Search New Jersey’s state parks and forests by location or activity. Biking, hiking, and in-line skating are great ways to move on our state’s picturesque trails! Explore by county: Atlantic County, Burlington County, Camden County, Cape May County, Cumberland County, Gloucester County, or Salem County.
