Week 8

Welcome to Week 8!

Below is all of the background activities, warm ups, karakia, whakatauki and even the philosophical question of the week.

Room 10 Week 8

Haiku

Last week we examined Haiku in both form and philosophy. We discovered how one is written but also the guiding ideas behind what make Haiku so important; as well as about the life of Haiku's most famous poets. Matsuo Basho

Here is the video we watched about it:

Haiku Poems

The haiku poems follow a structure of 5 syllables on the first line, 7 on the next and 5 on the final line.

This 5/7/5 maintains haiku as a short, sharp, snapshot into a moment in time. Here are a few of the poems Room 10 did.

Blends

This week we're also examining blends. Blends in words are when you see two consonants (opposite of vowels) that go together and you hear each of their sounds. For example 'bl,' 'cr,' and, 'st.' Have a go at finding as many words with blends as possible:

Cl - 'Clear' _________, ______________, _________________.

St - 'Stand' ____________, _____________, _______________.

Dr - 'Drive' ______________, ______________, ______________.

Have a go at finding these blends in the middle or the end of these words too! (Room 10 found cyclone on Monday)
