What is scouting? 

Scouting is a worldwide movement that aims to support young people in their physical, mental, and spiritual development, so they may play constructive roles in society. It offers a variety of programs and activities that promote outdoor skills, leadership, and community service.

What are the age groups for different scouting programs? 

Scouting programs are typically divided into age groups such as Cub Scouts (ages 5-10) and Scouts BSA (ages 11-17). Each program is tailored to the developmental needs of its members.

Meetings and Activities

When and where do scout meetings take place?

The Pack meets every other Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 pm, starting in October.  While the Troops meet every Thursday from 7-8:30 pm, starting in September.

What activities do scouts participate in?

Scouts participate in a wide range of activities, including camping, hiking, community service projects, merit badge work, and leadership training. Activities are designed to be fun and educational.

Are parents required to attend meetings? 

At the Pack level - parents are required to attend and we encourage parents to be involved.

At the Troop level - parents are not required to attend regular meetings, but they are encouraged to participate in special events, outings, and volunteer opportunities. Parental involvement is always welcome.

What should scouts wear to meetings? 

At the Pack level - We do not require the official uniform.

At the Troop level - Scouts should wear their official uniform to meetings, which typically includes a shirt, neckerchief, and appropriate badges. We sometimes change this based on the activity we are doing at the meeting (ie painting).

Safety and Policies

What safety measures are in place for scout activities? 

Scouting organizations prioritize safety by following strict guidelines and protocols. This includes trained leaders, first aid kits, emergency plans, and adherence to the Guide to Safe Scouting.

What is the policy on bullying and harassment? 

Scouting has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying and harassment. All members are expected to treat each other with respect. Any incidents should be reported to a leader immediately.

How are medical emergencies handled? 

In the event of a medical emergency, trained leaders will provide first aid and contact emergency services if necessary. Parents will be notified as soon as possible.

What is the policy on camping and outdoor activities? 

Camping and outdoor activities are integral to scouting. All activities are conducted under the supervision of trained leaders and follow the Guide to Safe Scouting to ensure safety and enjoyment.

Volunteering and Leadership

How can parents get involved as volunteers? 

Parents can get involved by volunteering for various roles such as assistant leaders, committee members, or event coordinators. Contact your troop leader to find out how you can help.

What training is required for scout leaders? 

Scout leaders are required to complete training courses that cover youth protection, outdoor skills, and leadership. Ongoing training opportunities are also available to enhance their skills.

What are the responsibilities of a scout leader? 

Scout leaders are responsible for planning and leading activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of scouts, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment. They also serve as role models and mentors.

Events and Fundraising

What are the major events in the scouting calendar? 

Major events include camporees, jamborees, service projects, and award ceremonies. These events provide opportunities for scouts to come together, learn new skills, and celebrate their achievements.  Please see our calendar of events by Pack and Troops.

How can scouts participate in fundraising activities? 

Scouts can participate in fundraising activities such as selling popcorn, hosting car washes, or organizing community events. Fundraising helps support troop activities and community service projects.

What are the funds used for? 

Funds raised by scouts are used to cover the cost of activities, equipment, uniforms, and community service projects. They also help support the overall operation of the troop.

How can I support fundraising efforts?

 You can support fundraising efforts by purchasing products, attending events, or making a donation. Your support helps ensure that all scouts have access to quality programs and activities.

Uniforms and Gear

Where can I buy scout uniforms and gear? 

Scout uniforms and gear can be purchased at official scout shops, online stores, or through your local council. Check with your troop leader for specific recommendations.

What items are required for new scouts? 

New scouts typically need a uniform shirt, neckerchief, and handbook. Additional items such as badges, patches, and outdoor gear may also be required. Your troop leader can provide a complete list.

Can second-hand uniforms be used? 

Yes, second-hand uniforms are acceptable and can be a cost-effective option. We do have some second-hand uniforms available. Sizes vary.
