On Friday, October 30, the North Hall Engineering Club competed in the Georgia Electrathon race at Lanier Technical College in Gainesville. It was the first Electrathon race held at the campus, and the cars ran on the college’s CDL training pad. Georgia Electrathon is a student-led racing series in which high school teams design, build, and race their own electric vehicles in one-hour endurance events that reward energy management and efficiency over raw speed.
Before the racing began, students toured Lanier Tech’s welding, automotive, racing, diesel, and mechatronics labs. The tours are part of Georgia Electrathon’s goal of connecting engineering competition with students’ future education and career paths.
North Hall raced their car in two classes: Christian Turner drove in the lead acid battery class, and James Harrison drove in the lithium ion battery class. Christian finished 3rd place in the lead acid division and accepted the award from Tim McDonald, president of Lanier Technical College.
Congratulations to Christian, James, and all the students who worked on the pit crew counting laps, monitoring voltage, and recording data. Thank you to Georgia Electrathon and Lanier Technical College for hosting.
