Alli Roberts, Principal
First grade students have been busy learning how living things grow and change. We completed our unit by scheduling a visit to the Dahlonega Butterfly Farm where we will be experiencing firsthand butterfly transformations! With the help of Mrs. David and Mrs. Wiley, each class researched a specific animal and learned about its lifecycle. Now, we are using our research skills to help us write to share information in our very own animal booklets. In Eureka Math, we are practicing part-part-whole by completing number bonds and using our addition and subtraction skills to solve word problems. Last, but not least, our students are working hard to show that they can be Positive, Accountable, Willing, and Safe every day!

Hat Day Tickets
Each Friday is Hat Day. Students can pay $1 to wear a hat to school each Friday. We occasionally have free hat days throughout the year when all students can war a hat on those days.
Ice Cream Tickets
A selection of ice cream is available at lunch every day. Ice Cream Tickets are available for purchase in the front office every day. Ice Cream Tickets are $1 each and are redeemed during lunch.
Parent Portal
If you have not set up your parent portal, please do so. Without a portal you will not have access to your child's report card and other vital information. You will use this portal throughout your child's educational journey through Hall County Schools, K-12.
The forms (found under "Documents" in the left menu) need to be completed in order for your child to be able to take their Chromebook home during "School From Home" days, and so we know which children we can highlight on social media. It is also important to complete the census information yearly so we are able to keep your child safe. This information includes who is allowed access to your child during the day and who is authorized to pick-up your child from school.
For additional assistance, feel free to reach out, and we'll be glad to help!

Mrs. Horn, ART
Kindergarten is still painting and now mixing primary colors to create secondary colors, first grade is learning how to overlap in a drawing, second graders are learning about 1 point perspective, third and fourth graders are learning about Native American Dreamcatchers, and fifth grade students are drawing figures in motion while incorporating proportion!
-As we kick off the new year in art class, students are getting familiar with classroom routines, expectations, and the exciting creative space we’ll be working in. During these first few days, we’re focusing on building a positive art environment, learning how to use and care for materials safely, and exploring the basics of artistic thinking and expression. This foundation sets the stage for a fun and productive year of making art!
Our lessons take multiple days to complete as we take pride in every little detail! By the time your child's showcase rolls around, they will have multiple artworks to take home! Once your child's portfolio is at home, feel free to keep collecting their masterpieces in one easy and organized place! PLEASE CHECK OUR CLASS INSTAGRAM PAGE @Lanier_Elementary_Artists to take a look inside the art room! 3rd-5th grade parents, keep an eye out for an email from Artsonia notifying you of any artwork your child has uploaded!
Coach Gibson and Coach Ledford, PE
Ready to jump into the fall yall!
This month we will be working on recreational activities and games.
The kindergarten and first grade students will be learning the basic movements using hoops and jump ropes.
Second through fifth grade students will be playing recreational games.
Each class will participate in activities involving cardiovascular strength and endurance. muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility.
Just a quick reminder to have your child wear tennis shoes on the day they have PE!
Mrs. Bowker, SEAD Lab - Welcome back to school! Mrs. Kindberg is currently on maternity leave, and I have the pleasure of serving as her substitute during her absence. I am truly delighted that school is back in session, as it gives me the opportunity to work with your wonderful children.
This year in the SEAD Lab, students will be focusing on several important social-emotional skills, including managing their emotions, building positive friendships, cooperating with others, and developing healthy problem-solving strategies-all in a fun and engaging learning environment.
At present, we are exploring the concept of mindfulness and learning how to practice being mindful towards ourselves and others. I look forward to a meaningful and productive year with your children.
Mrs. Howard, STEM
September flew by, filled with more collaborative learning experiences in the STEM Lab!
Kindergarten continues to practice working in teams through Storybook STEM Challenges inspired by read-alouds such as Pigeon Needs a Bath and Possum Come A-Knockin! Students are learning to use productive Team Talk and how to balance speaking and listening with their peers.
1st Graders were officially introduced to the Engineering Design Process through a Storybook STEM Challenge inspired by the book Leaf Man. We are working in teams to create a Leaf Man light enough to travel up and out of our wind tunnel!
2nd Grade is wrapping up their latest STEM Challenge through the Engineering Design Process! They compared and contrasted Native American kayaks, canoes, and rafts. Then, they used this knowledge to build their own using natural resources for one of our Georgia historical figures, Mary Musgrove!
3rd Grade started comparing and contrasting historic Native American shelters and are now in the midst of the Engineering Design Process as they work to build a shelter made of natural materials that can withstand the elements!
4th Grade made it to the last step of the Engineering Design Process! They created drag devices to slow down a payload that could successfully land on Mars. This week they practiced giving constructive criticism as other teams shared their final designs.
5th Grade is using their newfound knowledge of simple circuits to build a robot using a AA battery and a DC motor! We can’t wait to share these at their Showcase in November!
Breakfast is served to children each morning from 7:10-7:45. If a student comes in after 7:45 and is in need of breakfast, they will have the opportunity to take their tray to class with them. Our preference is for them to arrive early enough each day to ensure plenty of time to eat their breakfast in the lunchroom and be ready to begin class when the bell rings! Thank you for your support! In order to get them through the breakfast line with plenty of time to enjoy their breakfast please make sure they are learning their lunch numbers which is also their computer number! :)
October Harvest: Squash (Summer, Winter, Pumpkin)
Lunch charge reports will go home with students each month! Please make every effort to get them paid as quickly as possible. If you need assistance, please see the Nutrition Links on the side of this page to apply for free/reduced lunches.
We are selling chips and other items on Monday, Wednesday and Friday! You must either have money on your account or bring in $1.00 purchase. 😄
SAFETY UPDATES
Car Rider Alert! Morning drop-off is between 7:10 am and 7:45 am. Students must be dropped at the gym doors where adults are standing and not in the roundabout area, this is extremely unsafe for students. The gym doors will close promptly at 7:45, after that students are tardy and will need to be dropped at the front of the school. Do NOT drop students off without an adult.
Afternoon car riders, please remember that if your student is in K-2nd grades, they are picked up beginning at 2:10. The 3rd-5th grade students, or a sibling of a 3rd-5th grade student, are picked up at 2:20. If your child requires assistance with buckling, please pull forward to the lower parking lot and assist them there. Do not do this in the car rider line. See the diagram here.
We are very fortunate to have a crossing guard to help us in the mornings and afternoons to ensure our line moves as smooth as possible. He has asked that in the mornings, as soon as you see the flashing light (on his hat/uniform), that you will go ahead and turn on your blinker. This will signal to him quickly who will be turning and will hopefully help the line move even faster.
Students WILL be marked tardy if they arrive in car riders AFTER 7:45. Please be sure to have your child here on time each day and in their seat ready to learn at 7:45. Students may begin arriving at school at 7:10.
Thank you for displaying your child's car rider number in the window of your vehicle each day!
All transportation changes must be made in writing by 1:45. Please email all changes to lanieroffice@hallco.org by 1:45.
CLINIC UPDATES
Say "Boo!" to the Flu- Now is the time to start thinking about getting your yearly flu shot. Stay healthy for yourself and your family.
Talk to your child about washing their hands frequently; keeping fingers and hands out of their mouths, and covering coughs and sneezes.
Prevent Blindness Vision Event will be October 7 for 1st-3rd graders. If you have any questions about this; feel free to contact Nurse Deb.
Students requiring medication, whether prescription or non-prescription, must have a medication form on file in the clinic. All prescription and non-prescription drugs must be in their original containers and turned in to the clinic. At no time may a teacher dispense any medication.
