Each year a cohort of approximately 20-25 Howard E. Ivester Early College Dual Enrollment rising junior students will be selected by a committee created by IEC.
The committee will review student applications for community and school involvement, passion for healthcare fields, references, and high school achievement.
Exemplary applicants should demonstrate passion in one of the following healthcare fields, including but not limited to: Psychology, Sports Medicine, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Physician's Assistant, and General Medicine.
This partnership will increase accessibility and opportunity for our talented and diverse populations interested in healthcare professions.

COURSE INVOLVEMENT
Four semester program (1st - 4th HS periods)
Completed program will total 30 Hours of DE credit
Friday Seminars: Medical-based field trips, mentorships in healthcare, HWBL or HMP, speakers
DE Curriculum designed for future healthcare professionals
Scholars also earn:

COHORT COURSE REQUIREMENTS
CNA classes
(Medical Terminology ALHS 1090, clinical NAST 1100 and ALHS 1113 (may test out of this medical professions class) allowing them to begin collecting patient care hours (on 4.5 Honors scale at HS and NAST 1100 satisfies the Patient Care Fundamental course in the CTAE pathways at our high schools).
20 hours of rigorous, core academic DE classes
(counts as 5.0 on scale at HS):
PSY 1101;
Math 1111 (counts as 4th math needed for graduation and needed pre-reqs for DE science);
Human A&P I and II are slated;
Plus, any two of the following DE classes:
ENG 1101 (counts as 4th ENG at high school);
ENG 1102;
Chem 1151 and Lab;
US Hist; (counts as US at high school);
Econ; (counts as Econ at high school);
Gov; (counts as Government at high school);
Spanish; (counts as your next sequenced Spanish at high school - not guaranteed college transfer credit so check with your colleges of choice)
MATH 1113 (college PreCal);
Math 1460 (college Calc);
Comm 1101 (speech – 5.0 Eng elective at HS and Area C for college);
Friday Seminars

Students may take any combination of CTAE/Honors/AP/ IB classes or HWBL/HMP at the high school for 5th, 6th and 7th periods both years. Students may elect to self-pay for other DE courses. (Students must be new to Dual Enrollment OR choose to self-pay for all hours over the 30.)
CRITERIA FOR APPLICATION AND MAINTENANCE
HCSD rising junior students who are interested in the healthcare field.
Honors or above academic weighted high school transcript of at least 3.75 and strong science and or healthcare academic grades
Students will be expected to maintain a minimum academic GPA of 3.0 at the high school and also within their dual enrollment classes to remain in the cohort. Students not achieving the 3.0 minimum will have one semester of prohbation to improve GPA to the 3.0 minimum before dismissal. Students failing any academic class will be dismissed from the cohort.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Cohort will consist of 2 consecutive years of 2 DE blocks each (equals four periods at the high school) beginning in their junior year of high school. Students will take classes to gain their CNA certificate, 4th math credit, Psychology 1101, and other core classes. They will continue their cohort learning in advanced science curriculum.
