Not knowing what to do or where to turn when your student receives failing grades can be stressful and overwhelming. High school grading and credits can be confusing. And while we all understand what a failing grade means, we don't always know what to do next.
Now that progress reports are out, you should have an idea of how your student is doing in their classes. If you are not aware of how your student is doing, make sure you have an Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account. Click here for instructions on setting this up. You can also download the Infinite Campus app to your smartphone. This will send you notifications when new grades are entered and when your student is absent.
If your student is a virtual student, all grades are kept in the Canvas course. You can access this by having a Parent Observer Account. Click here for instructions on setting this up.
Having these tools will help you keep up-to-date with your student's progress and assignments.
Communicating with the teacher is the best way to get more information about why your student is struggling. Check to see if there are any missing assignments that can be made up. Work with the teacher on developing a plan to get your student the help that they need.

Students are often unsuccessful because of factors that have nothing to do with academic ability. Here are some tips to set your student up for success from opportunity.org . Even though your student's grades may be lower than what you want now, there is still plenty of time to pull them up. It will take some work, but it can be done.
