For the safety and security of our students, anyone who checks out a student from school must be on the approved check out list in Infinite Campus and must have a photo identification card with them at the time of checkout. This is purely a precautionary measure to ensure your children are safe.

Visitor Information

The safety, security and health of our students and faculty if our number one priority at AOD . As a result, we will continue to keep all exterior doors securely locked at all times. Visitors are asked to use the outside 2-way intercom to call the AOD office for late arrivals, early check-outs and general assistance. Parents and other visitors will be permitted to enter the building if they have a scheduled meeting with a faculty member or if they have volunteered for a special event or classroom activity. Please remember to bring a picture ID when visiting the school.

Dress Code

The Hall County School District’s Dress Code expressly lists items that cannot be worn on page 8 of the student agenda. If students are found to be in violation of the dress code and are not able to reach a parent/ guardian to bring an extra change of clothes, they will be given an alternate clothing option for the remainder of the day. Students will not be permitted in the hallways or classes until the situation is corrected.

Cell Phone Procedures

Last year, we saw a significant increase in students using cell phones and other personal electronic devices without permission in classes and hallways. We emphasize to our students that cell phone possession and usage at school is a privilege and must only be used at designated times during the day and only with permission from the teacher. We have phones for communication in every classroom and every student is provided with a laptop making personal cell phones unnecessary for class usage. We want to teach our kids proper online etiquette and safety and when it is appropriate to use their devices. We are sure you share our concern that adolescents are becoming increasingly withdrawn with increased cell phone exposure and we hope you will support our efforts to help our children become more aware of responsible device usage. We also want to encourage students to engage with their peers in more face to face collaboration and fewer digital conversations.

Like you, we are seeing students who are increasingly distracted by their devices and it is becoming an issue that is getting in the way of learning. Our fear is that it is becoming a problem with families as well where rules for device usage at home can be hard to enforce. At school, our current procedure allows students to bring their cell phones for availability after school to contact parents as needed. However during school hours, cell phones are to be turned off and kept in pockets, purses, or bookbags. As a privilege, and at the teacher’s discretion, students may use their phones during lunch. When a phone rings in class or a student uses the phone (and/or earbuds, etc.) without permission, the phone is taken by the teacher, labeled with the student’s name and delivered by the teacher to the main office where it is stored in our vault. The device will be kept safely in the vault until a parent or guardian can pick the device up. Please know that our intent is not to inconvenience our families, but to provide our students undistracted opportunities to learn in a safe and orderly environment free from unnecessary distractions.
