Dear Parents and Students,
My name is Yolanda Scott and I am your scholar’s Second Grade English Teacher. I am so excited about the opportunity to work with you and your child. I anticipate a very fun and productive year.
I have been teaching for 26 years. I grew up in Halifax County and graduated from Northwest Halifax High School. After graduating, I attended NC A&T State University where I received a BA in Psychology and a MS in Elementary Education. I spent my first years of teaching here in Halifax County. After obtaining an AIG Licensure, I spent 5 years teaching AIG in Nash Rocky Mount Schools. I have currently transitioned from the AIG Facilitator for HCS to second grade at Aurelian Springs Institute of Global Learning. I have one son and a granddaughter. My son is also an alumni of HCS as well. When I'm away from school, I spend my time working in my church and spending time with my family.
I will be working closely with Mrs. Moreno, the Spanish teacher. Together we will ensure that our students are growing and being challenged through projects and other experiences that go beyond the scope of their grade-level curriculum.
It is my hope that your child will find his/her participation in second grade full of rich experiences that will inspire their love of learning—both inside and outside the classroom, and throughout life. As we begin this journey together, I hope that we can be partners in providing the best possible education for your child. I will be sending out updates as needed. However, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Yolanda Scott, Second Grade
