Classroom Policies

Classroom Assignments:  Students will be given daily assignments in class for reading, math, and writing. Students will be given assignments in science three days a week and social studies two days a week. Assignments are due on the day they are assigned unless instructed otherwise. Please note that assignments may consist of a mixture of both digital and paper assignments.

Homework:  Homework will be given out daily. Homework will be due on the next school day. When school is not in session, homework will be collected on the next school day. Students are expected to practice their sight words at home daily. Students will also be given a reading log and expected to either read or have someone read to them at least three times a week. 

Snack: Students will be allowed to bring a healthy snack to school. Please be advised that snacks are a privilege and not a right unless needed for a documented medical condition. Snack time is given at the discretion of the teacher or teacher’s assistant and may be revoked due to behavior. Snacks are to be kept in a labeled ziplock bag or a sealed container. Snacks needing refrigeration are not allowed unless needed for a documented medical condition.  

Parent Communication- Home folders will be sent home every day. They will contain a daily behavior log that must be signed daily. This folder will also contain other important pieces of communication that must be read. A bi-weekly newsletter will be sent out once every two weeks and will contain important classroom and school-related information. Also, I will be using Classdojo  to communicate with parents. Please see the Classdojo attached flyer to sign-up .

Celebrations: During the year we will have planned celebrations (i.e. Christmas party, PBIS celebrations, special events). Parents will be notified in advance of any celebrations requiring parent permission. To protect instructional time, please contact me or the office at least 24 hours in advance for birthday parties  so that we can prepare. 

Report Cards: Report cards will go home at the end of every grading period. While the report card itself can remain at home, the report card covering must be signed and brought back to the school.

Progress Reports: Progress reports will go home once a quarter. Progress reports are to be reviewed, signed, and returned to school. 

Field Trips: During the school year we may take several trips. Parents will be encouraged to attend these trips at their own expense. If you or someone you know decides to accompany the class on a trip your child may be signed out early only by you, or someone that you have given written permission to sign-out the student. Under no circumstances will oral permission be accepted. This is to ensure the safety of every child.  

School Supplies: Students are requested to have the materials on the supply list. While planning for the year please consider buying enough supplies to last throughout the year. Also, students will be permitted to use classroom supplies when needed. However, these supplies are very limited.  

Conferences:  Parents and guardians are welcomed and encouraged to set up conferences at their request. To request a conference please contact me. Also, we will have special nights where students will lead parent, teacher, and student conferences. These nights will be announced throughout the school year.

Parent Volunteers:   Parents and guardians are encouraged and welcomed to volunteer in the classroom.

Technology: All 2nd grade students will receive a school issued chromebook. In order to take their chromebook home, parents must pay the $20.00 yearly insurance fee which will cover the cost of repairs should an accident occur. Students will then be allowed to bring their laptop home each night and will be expected to bring them back to school each day with a full charge. In addition, both parent and student must sign the district’s acceptable use policy agreement.  Please refer to the Halifax County school’s chrome book manual and policy.
