Lisa Henjes, Elementary Gifted and Talented Teacher
Dear Haddonfield Elementary School Communities,
Greetings! My name is Lisa Henjes, and it is an honor and privilege to be part of the Haddonfield School District as the Elementary Gifted and Talented Teacher.
This is my 21st year as a New Jersey public school teacher and my 9th year teaching gifted and talented. I started my career in Winslow Township, and have also taught in South Harrison and Haddon Township School Districts. I have held a variety of positions including: classroom teacher in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th grade; Library Media Specialist; Computer Teacher; Interventionist; and RTI Coordinator. These varied experiences have given me a unique and holistic perspective on teaching students.
After graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1994 from New England College in New Hampshire with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, I moved to New Jersey to pursue a career in social services. I spent five years working with children and families involved with the Division of Youth and Family Services. It was through this work that I discovered my true passion for teaching. In 1999 I earned my Master’s Degree in Teaching from Rowan University. My dedication to continuous learning has also led me to complete coursework as an Associate Library Media Specialist at Rutgers University in 2013 and to pursue Orton-Gillingham and LETRS training in 2019 and 2020.
I believe that strong relationships are the foundation of effective teaching. When students feel valued and understood, they thrive and grow. By connecting with their interests and passions, we can unlock their full potential and foster a love for learning. I also emphasize the importance of supporting students' social and emotional well-being. During my time teaching third grade before the pandemic, I was concerned by the number of students facing anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. To address this, I completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training to integrate yoga’s principles and practices into my teaching.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy the beach, hiking, traveling, attending concerts, teaching yoga, and enjoying my family, which includes three adult children - Max, Emma, and Johanna, and two cats - Milo and Pickles.
I am excited to be a part of this wonderful community and am grateful for the opportunity to work with you and your child. Please feel free to reach out to me at ehenjes@haddonfield.k12.nj.us
