Sept. 15-Oct. 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. This month serves to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Here at HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, we stand in support of and solidarity with the remarkable members of the Hispanic community.
HACC is required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (20 USC § 1092(f)) to publish an annual security report by Oct. 1 of each calendar year. The report contains three years of campus crime statistics for incidents that occurred on a HACC campus, in unobstructed public areas immediately adjacent to or running through a campus and at certain non-campus facilities owned or controlled by the College.
Also included in the report are policy and procedure disclosures for emergency response, the reporting of crime, investigative and disciplinary procedures for rape, sexual assault/misconduct and drug and alcohol control, among others.

HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, has been named Harrisburg Magazine’s Simply the Best College/University for 2025. The honor was announced Aug. 15.
The College also recognized 1,326 students on the dean’s list for the summer 2025 semester.

HACC Foundation donors provided funding for the HACC Theatre Program’s production of Angels in America at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus. The funding supported the complex staging, technical elements and casting needed to bring this Pulitzer Prize-winning play to life.
The production was directly tied to coursework, with students taking on specialized roles such as stage management, sound design, scenic construction, properties design, SFX makeup, wardrobe assistance, lighting assistance, backstage crew, puppetry and acting. These experiences strengthened student résumés and prepared them for careers in theatre and related fields.
The funding also supported a pre-show reception during a sold-out performance attended by parents, community members and representatives from the Central PA LGBTQ Center and GLO, the Harrisburg Gay Men's Choir. The event sparked meaningful dialogue among students and audiences, demonstrating HACC’s commitment to belonging and the production of challenging, thought-provoking theatre.
HACC Foundation donors provided funding for two iPads to support High School to College Pathway Navigators serving students in York and Dauphin counties. These devices help navigators track student engagement and outcomes in a way that is both personal and purposeful.
Navigators meet students where they are to discuss their futures and explore opportunities at HACC, especially through dual enrollment and College in the High School (CHS) programs. After each meeting, students complete a short survey on the iPad to share their background, interests and evolving understanding of college options. This data helps HACC identify gaps in access to higher education and tailor support to meet student needs.
The initiative has increased student confidence and awareness of HACC’s programs while strengthening relationships with local high schools. By combining meaningful conversations with intentional data tracking, HACC is creating a consistent and sustainable way to measure impact and ensure that every student receives guidance on their individual path.
Sometimes, all it takes is one event to change the course of a person’s life forever. That is what happened to Amelia Ramirez after she attended an open house at HACC. She enrolled in classes the same day and started her journey to becoming a nurse. Through the ups and downs of going to school and raising children, she said that HACC supported her and provided “endless opportunity.”
