Photographs from Cuba Exhibition featuring Everyday Life

Sept. 1-30, 2022, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery

“Photographs from Cuba” by internationally known artist, Jim Hartsen will be displayed in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, from Sept. 1-30, 2022.

For over 12 years, Hartsen has been going back to his roots of street photography, focusing on Cuba and Peru to capture images of simple yet friendly people. Most of his work is exhibited and sold through fine art galleries.

Hartsen, who graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in photographic illustration in 1968, will discuss his work Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. in Whitaker Hall, Room 214. A reception will immediately follow at the gallery. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

For more information about the exhibit at HACC, please contact Shawn Williams at 717-780-2478 or smwillia@hacc.edu.

Join the KEYS Program!

KEYS is a collaborative program between the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and the Pennsylvania Commission of Community Colleges which helps students succeed at community college.

KEYS work by building relationships, connecting students and breaking barriers. Students see additional benefits through KEYS as they build relationships with program facilitators and peers, are connected to resources in the college and community, and break barriers and cycles of poverty. Find out if you are eligible for the KEYS program, by learning more at www.hacc.edu/Students/KEYSProgram.

Degree Works Launch

The College is officially launching the Degree Works tool for students and employees in fall 2022.

Degree Works will help students streamline their progress toward a degree by eliminating unnecessary courses and ensuring students stay on track. Degree Works will show students a visual representation of their progress toward a degree, the requirements that have been met for that credential, as well as any outstanding requirements yet to complete.

For a sneak peek of the Degree Works tool, check out this video.

It is important to note that not all HACC students will be able to use every feature of Degree Works. Degree Works is built off what are called “catalog terms,” and we have set up Degree Works to work with catalog terms from fall 2018 forward. Therefore, students who began at HACC prior to the fall 2018 semester will have an earlier catalog year and will not be able to use the degree auditing feature of Degree Works, even though they will be using Degree Works to develop their educational plans with their advisor. Students with a catalog term prior to fall 2018 will continue to use the CAPP Degree Evaluation tool. Students with questions about their catalog term should speak to their advisor.

Does Your School District Pay A Portion of Your Tuition?

Did you know that HACC has an agreement with select school districts in our service areas to provide a tuition reduction to their students? These school districts have agreed to pay a portion of your tuition if you have lived in their school district for at least a year- even if you did not go to high school in the area. The good news is that this benefit will not cost you anything! All you have to do to receive the tuition discount is show that you have lived in that school district for at least a year and submit the necessary application to your school district. To learn more about this tuition reduction opportunity, click here. If you have questions about this or how it applies to your account, contact the Welcome Center.

HACC Joins Achieving the Dream Network

HACC is excited to announce that it’s been chosen as one of seven colleges to join the 2022 cohort of Achieving the Dream (ATD) Network. As part of this honor, we will work with ATD to holistically advance equity, access and student success. Please visit our online newsroom for more information.

HACC’s CARE Center Is Picking Up Momentum

The CARE Center is a one-stop shop to assist all students currently attending classes with non-academic barriers such as housing, transportation, daily necessities, mental health, utilities, etc. The CARE Center views all of our students holistically and understands that you are more than just our amazing students. You are providers, caregivers, trailblazers and breakers of generational curses. When creating a bright future for yourself and your family there can be bumps along the way. The CARE Center is here to ensure that these are small speed bumps that may cause you to slow down and seek support but not to tap the brakes completely during your academic journey.

This past academic year the CARE Center served over 340 students due to the hard work and dedication of CARE Center Coordinators Emmanuella Brown and Nancy Moya! The CARE Center believes in taking student requests at face value without a student having to plead their case for our assistance. The Center provides individual immediate support and a long-term plan for success for each student which can include plugging the student into community and government resources. We really take to heart the Empower in our name. If you or a peer are looking for assistance please complete the CARE Center intake form. We are happy to serve you and want to ensure that you are fully supported! #HACCHasYourBack
