November is National Native American Heritage Month. This month serves to highlight and celebrate the richness and contributions that Native Americans add to the world. Additionally, we recognize and mourn the struggles and trauma that their community has endured for centuries. Here at HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, we stand in support of the Native American community, past and present.

Many HACC students are getting the skills they need to make a better life for themselves and their loved ones despite facing challenges – students like Reagan:
“The cost of post-secondary education in the United States is outrageous. My parents and I feel strongly that HACC is a high-value, high-quality education and an excellent option for anyone.
In November of 2021, I was finally diagnosed with chronic Lyme Disease and tick-borne infections after two long years of illness. Being able to begin my general education studies at HACC while I was recovering was helpful. Now that I am almost fully recovered, I am excited to be a part of the nursing program. The journey to recovery has been long, but my illness has contributed to my further interest in healthcare and my desire to educate others.” - Reagan, HACC student

The HACC Alumni Association is hitting the road and offering two iconic bus trips in partnership with AAA Travel, and you’re invited!
These trips are open to anyone, including (but not limited to) alumni, donors, employees, students and other supporters.

HACC Foundation donors provided funding for HACC’s Paralegal Studies Program to access Westlaw, an essential legal research database. This support allows the program to meet American Bar Association guidelines, which require students to have access to comprehensive legal resources, including statutes, cases and legal publications. With Westlaw, HACC offers these resources more affordably and conveniently, benefiting students at multiple HACC campuses.
Thanks to funding from HACC Foundation donors, HACC’s paralegal students conducted more than 20,000 research inquiries on Westlaw in a previous academic year. This access allows students to practice essential legal research skills remotely and prepares them for job demands. Ninety-six percent of students in the Legal Research and Writing II course became Westlaw certified and will be able to add this credential to their resumés.
By supporting access to Westlaw, HACC Foundation donors ensure students can learn legal research in a flexible, cost-effective environment. This opportunity for trial-and-error practice strengthens students’ confidence and proficiency in electronic research, enabling them to enter the workforce with skills that meet employer expectations.
HACC Foundation donors provided funding for the Fund for Excellence for CARE, enabling the CARE Center to address nonacademic barriers that often impede students' ability to complete their degrees. This funding allowed the CARE Center to offer essential resources such as childcare, food insecurity support, transportation, housing assistance, mental health services, social services and healthcare to HACC’s students.
The CARE Center is committed to helping students overcome these obstacles on their path to graduation. It has fostered a culture of "HACC has my back," where students, in challenging situations, can rely on a safety net that helps them thrive. By helping to address students' needs beyond the classroom, they can focus on their full potential and not just their circumstances.
Funding from the HACC Foundation directly impacts many lives, providing crucial assistance not only to students but, in many cases, to their families as well. HACC and the CARE Center will continue to support students in need and help them on the road to success.
HACC celebrated the opening of 12 new pickleball courts on Nov. 7, 2024, with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests were invited to participate in open play or receive guidance from a professional pickleball instructor. Whether you’re a pickleball pro or completely new to the game, all were welcome to enjoy the brand-new courts.
The courts are located at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus behind the Ted Lick Administration Building and are now available for use by students, employees and members of the public. To reserve a court, please fill out this form.

HACC and Johnson Controls have partnered to help bridge the skilled trades gap and strengthen local communities by providing scholarships, mentorship and career opportunities to underrepresented students in programs like HVAC, welding and electrical technology.
