Hi, my name is Ralph Magliano. I am a student massage therapist, and a licensed speech-language pathologist specializing in voice! I graduate May 10 from HACC’s massage therapy program!
The path that led me to massage began with my long and epic journey to find my own singing voice. I can personally relate to many singers when they activate misplaced body and or vocal tract tension while singing. This holds back their breath and voice and can actually hide their beautiful and unique natural sound.
As a singer and speech therapist, I observed that muscle tension is the primary driver of all vocal behavior. And this tension when misplaced, usually causes voice problems. Who are the masters of identifying and eliminating misplaced muscle tension? Massage therapists!
To better address my clients, I chose to become a massage therapist. I looked for an accredited massage program with an experienced faculty, a broad range of modalities, an above average amount of academic hours, research opportunities and a college level curriculum. The HACC massage program has all these things! Regarding the program itself, I have gained a profound understanding of anatomy and movement and how to address muscle tension in my clients, as well as an ability that can’t be studied or listed on a course syllabus. An intelligent and therapeutic touch.
I am currently conducting student research at HACC, on the effect of massage on the singing voice. As a licensed massage therapist, I will have the professional ability and skill to truly touch voices and to bring my client’s vocal function and voice awareness to a healing space which only massage can. If you have a dream involving massage, believe, plan, work hard and go for it!
