Update on HACC's Presidential Search

HACC Launches Search for College’s Eighth President

On Aug. 6, 2024, John J. "Ski" Sygielski, MBA, Ed.D., the longest-serving president in HACC’s history, announced his plans to retire from the College on July 18, 2025. The Board of Trustees at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, has launched the search to find the College’s eighth president.

The HACC Board of Trustees is partnering with Academic Search, a search consulting firm, to lead a national search for top candidates who meet the qualifications outlined in the search profile.

HACC Foundation Donors Fund Digital Asset Management System

HACC Foundation donors provided funding for the first year of HACC’s subscription to Canto, a digital asset management (DAM) system. Canto centralizes and organizes media files, streamlining the search, storage and distribution of assets like photos, videos and graphics.

By improving access to media files, Canto enhances efforts to recruit students and market the College. Features like smart tagging and facial recognition simplify file management, saving time and improving efficiency.

The HACC Foundation’s support ensures that HACC can better organize, search and share its media, benefiting internal departments and external marketing partnerships.

HACC Foundation Donors Fund Inspiring Art Lecture and Workshop

HACC Foundation donors funded a public lecture and workshop featuring internationally known artist and graphic designer, Mike McQuade. The event brought students and community members together for a meaningful artistic experience.

The lecture drew more than 50 participants, with many students staying afterward to engage in discussions with McQuade. Several students later shared with the gallery director how inspired they were by their interaction with the artist.

The workshop was equally successful. Graphic design students collaborated to create collage pieces addressing creative challenges posed by the instructor. This hands-on experience was particularly meaningful for many students attending classes remotely. They expressed excitement about working with their peers on campus and directly engaging with the artist.

This event, made possible by HACC Foundation donors, offered students a unique opportunity to connect, create and gain new insights into their craft.

A Partner in Building a Skilled Workforce

“Everything you hear about the building technology industry points to one challenge: the lack of skilled trades,” says Mike Schade, vice president of human resource for North America, global digital and IT at Johnson Controls.

Recognizing this gap, Johnson Controls launched the Community College Partnership Program in 2021, partnering with two-year colleges to engage students from underrepresented groups and support them in sustainable building practices. With an investment of $15 million across 30 community colleges, the initiative is helping schools near Johnson Controls locations enhance their educational offerings. HACC is one of those schools. #HACCyeah

Forging Success for Black Men at Community Colleges

At institutions like HACC, programs tailored to the needs of men of color yield promising results. HACC’s Men of Color Initiative provides comprehensive support by promoting empowerment, self-advocacy and healthy life choices. This initiative helps students overcome systemic barriers and successfully navigate their personal and professional lives through education.

Michael Davis, executive director of intercultural affairs and advocacy at HACC, and Olajiwon K. McCadney, associate vice president of intercultural engagement and campus life at HACC, discuss the impact of tailored programs for men of color.

HACC Hosting Healthcare Enrollment Fairs for Veterans

HACC’s Military and Veteran Affairs Office is proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and Veterans Health Administration to host VA Healthcare Enrollment Fairs on our campuses in January and February. We welcome students and members of the public who are veterans to connect with the VA, review the process and benefits and apply.

HACC to Host Military and Veteran Resource Fair for Active Military and Veterans

HACC will host a Military and Veteran Resource Fair on March 5, 2025, on the first floor of the Bruce E. Cooper Student Center on the Harrisburg Campus. The event will connect service members, veterans, student veterans and veteran family members with essential resources, including Veterans Affairs health care, employment, military recruitment and higher education.

The fair will feature sessions from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on March 5.
