Cadet, 64, Making History in HACC’s 122nd Municipal Police Academy

Thinking about retirement? Not Daniel Donovan, one of the newest full-time cadets in HACC’s 122nd Municipal Police Academy. Donovan, 64, is the oldest cadet in the academy’s history. There are 61 full-time cadets in the class, which is the largest to date.

In a story published by PennLive, Donovan said, “I learned early in my life the answer is always ‘no,’ unless you put in for it and try to get where you want to go.”

Support HACC Students this Spring (and Beyond!)

Thousands of HACC students will enter the classroom this spring, and many more will take classes online from the location of their choosing. Some of them will step foot on a college campus for the first time, and others will return after putting their educational goals on hold.

Danielle, a HACC student, said, “When I wanted to quit, these professors have never doubted my ability to keep pushing,”

As a #HACCproud supporter, you can continue encouraging HACC students to keep going by contributing to the HACC Foundation. You can help provide innovative programs and technology to future teachers, public safety professionals and healthcare providers

Upcoming Events

Two- and three-dimensional paintings by Claes Gabriel will be on display Jan. 17-Feb. 10, 2023, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery.

Rose Lehrman Art Gallery to Feature Vibrant Paintings by Internationally Known Artist

Two- and three-dimensional paintings that ring with the spiritual energy of beings from folklore and imagined tales by internationally known artist Claes Gabriel will be on display Jan. 17-Feb. 10, 2023, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus.

Gabriel will give a free lecture Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. in Room 214 of Whitaker Hall with a reception to follow in the art gallery.

Inspired by modernists such as Frank Stella and Sam Gilliam, Gabriel’s three-dimensional works live beyond the confines of a flat wall; he stretches and sews canvases taut over wooden armatures to construct masks and free-standing statues.

‘Perceiving Emptiness’ Exhibit Features Artwork with Human Hair

“Perceiving Emptiness” by internationally known artist Jayoung Yoon will be displayed in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, from Feb. 20 to March 17. The public is invited to a free lecture by the artist on March 2 at 6 p.m. in room 214 of Whitaker Hall on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus. A reception will follow the lecture at the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery.

The work of Yoon, a New York-based artist born in South Korea, draws upon the mind-matter phenomenon, exploring memory, perception and bodily sensations. The primary medium in her work is human hair, a material that is intimately corporeal, tactile and focuses the viewer’s attention on the body.

Yoon’s work has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries and has appeared in various publications.

For more information about the exhibit, please contact Shawn Williams at 717-780-2478 or smwillia@hacc.edu.
