Meet Courtney: Focused on the Future
Like students all over the world, Courtney’s final months of high school were anything but ordinary as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic. She said, “I wasn’t too pleased that I didn’t have a ‘normal’ senior year, I wanted my prom, my softball season, and my actual graduation with everyone.” Instead, Courtney had to miss these high school cornerstones and finish her senior year online. Although there were disappointments in the spring, Courtney decided to keep looking forward. Head to our website to read how HACC fits in Courtney’s journey.
HACC Celebrates an Outstanding and Transformative Partnership with TE Connectivity
HACC has a steady and successful partnership with TE Connectivity. Through collaboration with and involvement from the company, the College has been able to serve students in new and dynamic ways over the years. With mutual benefit, HACC has welcomed TE professionals as advisory board members and adjunct instructors. Additionally, HACC students have been presented with the opportunity to work on special projects with TE professionals – projects that prepare them for successful careers.
In January 2019, the TE Connectivity Fund for Excellence in Tool & Die was created to support the creation of an apprentice program for tool and die makers. Tool and die makers set up and operate a variety of computer-controlled machine tools to produce precision metal parts, instruments and tools. The first class began on Jan. 17, 2019, and graduates of the program earn a journey worker credential from the U.S. Department of Labor.
TE Connectivity and TE Connectivity Foundation’s generous contributions have benefited the College through these projects:
· 3-D print lab
· Emergency assistance funds
· Equipment fund
· Funds for excellence
· Scholarships
· Sponsorships
Eric Shenk, the senior manager of operations at TE Connectivity, said, “TE Connectivity is proud of our longstanding partnership with HACC. Through HACC, we’re investing in our employees while building a stronger, smarter workforce for TE and the larger Central Pennsylvania community.”
Following are some testimonials from students who were impacted by this partnership:
· “My degree in another field wasn’t enough to support me and my family. I started in forestry 10 years ago after Penn College. Not enough pay. I always worked for the state. Now, I’m happy to have a job that’s secure. I just want to grow and get better.” - Kole
· “I wanted an advancement. Current work is monotonous. I like to constantly learn new things. I’m looking to advance and keep going as far as I can until retirement.” - Myck
We are #HACCproud of the generosity of TE Connectivity and the TE Connectivity Foundation. Next up? A mechatronics apprenticeship program.
We look forward to many more years of impact on HACC’s students and their futures and our community.

HACC’s Consultation, Advocacy, Referrals and Empowerment (CARE) Center’s Impact
HACC’s CARE Center completed its first semester of operation in fall 2020. The single-stop resource was created to assist students struggling outside of the classroom, thus enabling them to complete their studies.
The Center’s impact on HACC students affected by food insecurity, housing insecurity and financial crises was tremendous. We are #HACCproud that 90% of students who contacted the CARE Center successfully completed the fall 2020 semester. Only 6% withdrew from their classes.
These incredible results would not be possible without the HACC Foundation and its generous donors. The impact does not end with these students but extends to their families and communities.
The Center plans to expand its programs as we continue to support our most vulnerable students. To learn how you can support HACC’s CARE Center, please visit here.
